[ROM] [RELEASE] Steel Droid: 5.6 - Ice Cream Sandwich - 6-8-2012

I'm having a few issues with 5.3. At random times, the keyboard becomes unresponsive while inputting text, and instead opens up random apps when keys are pressed. Also, the phone will randomly reboot at times, and as a result 3g data becomes unavailable, forcing me to have to reboot the phone myself. I wiped cache and delvik before installing 5.3 over 5.2, so I'm curious to see if anyone else is having any of these issues. Hopefully the next update will address some of these.

The keyboard issue can be fixed by holding the "Search" key (magnifying glass).

Other then that I've yet to experience any random reboots and dropped 3g like you've had. I'll keep my eye out though.

Chevy:
First of all, thanks for putting this out there. I followed your instructions and have SD 5.3 installed and it's running great so far. A few notes/observations:
  • At Step 9 of your Flashing Instructions, RSD Lite never stopped says "In Process" under "Results", even though it had completed. This made me think something was wrong, but obviously when I closed RSD Lite and continued everything was fine.
  • Maybe you should mention something about having to be in Safestrap's "Safe Mode" when applying your image? It can't be applied unless it is, and that's not specified in your instructions.
  • As you mentioned below the instructions, I had to pull my battery and wipe the data/cache for the phone to boot. If that's common, maybe it should be listed as a step as well.
Thanks again for your hard work. I'm going to play with the ROM and update if I find anything that hasn't been discussed.

Dually noted. As for the flashing in Safe Mode, Rick#2's tweaked SafeStrap will let you flash anything, in either Safe or Non-Safe mode, it will do it both ways.

I think I read on one of his posts that if its a 2nd init rom, like the ICS roms, they need to be flashed in safe mode.

I dont know about that I have my ICS build flashed in Non-Safe mode, and my testing ROMS in my Safe Mode. Maybe I was just lucky?

Here are a few more notes after some more testing:
  • Battery indicator always reports 100%, even when I wipe the battery stats. Even more interesting is that the phones reports "Charged" when I connect it via USB, even though that's not possible given the amount of time I've used it off the charger.
  • Video recording doesn't work - camera does after a reboot or two.
  • Keyboard backlight doesn't work, even with display brightness manually set to max.
  • Auto light sensor setting doesn't seem to be working.
Performance is excellent - far better than the stock OS.

-You have to let the battery cycle a few times for it to settle into a correct calibration.
-Video is known issue with any ICS Rom for the D3. (driver issues)
-Keyboard backlight works great for me & same with auto-brightness (been running SD ICS since RC1 and its never been an issue)

If you continue having issues I'd either suggest a fresh install or simply try and fiddle with "Rom Control" and General settings until things work for you.

I really love ics and I'm running AOKP right now and I like all of the features...I see that steeldroid is based off of aokp but I also read somewhere that batt life is good? I'm still looking for the rom that I really want and one factor is battery...I loved mavrom but I don't like GB so I was hoping steeldroid has at least a little better battery life than the others?

Battery life will be different for everyone. For me though v5.3 has been running great, I can go all day and still have 30-40% charge left, and I use my phone pretty heavily (SMS, games, internet, wifi, etc). You'll have to wait about a day or 2-3 battery cycles though to see the best results.

Ok but I was wondering wat the average would be...and do you have an extended battery? Right now I use my phone a lot and I can get down to about 20% or less by 1pm

Also, do i need to sbf before I flash or can i just wipe everything?

1. I have the Extended Battery, if you don't have it I'd highly suggest investing. It's worth it.
2. Average-wise I would say I 12-14 hours of use and still have 20% at the end of the day. Although if I'm in an area with bad cell service its drastically worse.
3. SBF-ing is advised, simply so you have a clean system to install over. Although personally I've had no issues flashing over MavRom or SDv4 (Both GB based roms)

I will see about making a new D3 ICS build tonight. Not really much of a changelog, but will be based on Milestone 5 from AOKP. Im kind of taking a small break from Android for a week or so. I need to let my bring cool down. All these ROMs and stuff are overheating my head. lol

Reboots in google music all the time, drops data...I'm convinced my overall 3g quality is less. I just don't think ICS is gonna work out....
