[ROM] [BETA] CyanogenMod 7 for Droid 2

running the 4th build for today (the 28th) by Rev.. keyboard in landscape is fixed
still fast and stable...
and with next day or so it gets merged finally :)

This rom is seriously amazing. Its just so crisp and... awesome. Having a android experience like this makes me think my phone is amazing again. Thanks to the devs for bringing this to the droid 2 rom family

Need to come from froyo
but basic install from rootzwiki

1 SBF
2 Root + bootstrap using z4root and droid2bootstrap
3 reboot into recovery
4 format system, wipe data and cache
5 flash rom

Does this get flashed just like any other ROM, or does this have special magic precautions?

The only major precaution is that you have to be on froyo to flash it, can't be on gb. Then just wipe data and and format system and you will be all set.
Sorry about the repeat info, the net being slow

I'll wait for a stable release.... that should give me time to figure out what I'm doing with SBFing. ;)

It's completely stable now, has been for several builds. Never had a single reboot or lock up using this ROM, not even one.

The installation process won't change - you'll have to SBF back to Froyo as the CM ROM on the DX and D2 boot off the Froyo kernel.

You can wait if you want, but what you're waiting for is already here...the ROM is a daily driver as-is, the remaining minor issues are things like having to plug in, un-plug, and plug-in a second time for USB charge/mount, and a couple other minor issues.

Sbf'ing isn't as much of a painful process as some people make it out to be. I had to learn how to do it before I flashed CM7 and I could say I had no trouble at all and everything went along smoothly. The only thing you need to worry about is making sure you download the correct sbf file, make sure you have the motorola drivers, and backup any information such as texts or apps with data in titanium backup and you should be good to go. If you need any help with the whole process, feel free to pm me or I'm sure someone on here would be willing to help you out. It's definitely worth the transition to CM7 you won't regret it :).

If anyone wants to skip the normal SBF process, simply get the Team Black Hat app from the market ($3) and then you can download and flash (from Clockwork Recovery) a zip file that will "SBF" your phone back to stock Froyo...very cool.

But as noted, the requirement to be on Froyo before you can flash this ROM isn't going to go away, so anyone waiting for that to happen will be waiting a very, very, very long time. :)

CM7 is still Gingerbread as well. It just uses the kernal that moto set up for their froyo builds.

So you have CM7 for G.B. and Liberty for G.B. too.

kernal

Yes Hello , if im borrowing froyo kernal for cm7 and can tether, can i manipulate liberty gb kernal same way, so i can tether w/gingerbread, w/o activating Verizon Tether notification?

So, the 6/29 nightly is bootable then? I'm about to download it but I don't want to be without a phone at work all day...
