[ROM] [BETA] CyanogenMod 7 for Droid 2

If for some reason I wanted to switch to a different rom like liberty or apex, would I need to SBF first since this is android 2.3 running on the froyo kernel? Or since it's still the froyo kernel, can I just format system/wipe data+cache and then install the new ROM?

If you're on a Froyo ROM, you can just wipe data/cache, format system, and install the CM ROM and Gapps.

Noob question. I have seen you mention "format system" twice now. I had the same problem that cmhydro was having, and the wipe data/cache, wipe davlik, and a fresh install solved the problem. Thank you for that suggestion. What purpose does formatting the system serve though? I have never done this before, and if it will increase the roms productivity (It's un-freaking-believable as it is!) I would definitely perform this operation. Thanks!

System and data are 2 different things. Wiping data, just wipes data. Formatting the system, erases and sets up a clean slate, for simplicities sake

Got it. This can only be done via adb shell, correct? Also, has anyone gotten the status bar brightness control to work?

Its working fine for me, it takes a couple slow swipes to get it to work though, and I had assumed it was like a dimmer switch but in reality it just changes it like the widget. Still very cool though. Now the only problems I'm having are the Alt. Key and bad battery drain.

Thank you! Not sure why I couldn't figure that out. 8) I find that it does work as a dimmer switch. The brightness corresponds to the position of your finger on the bar. Also, the alt button should work. The alt lock button is the only non-operational button.

Well look at that! Lol. I meant alt lock, I wonder what it is about this rom that dropped the button... no big deal though really, I have no qualms about pressing the alt button twice.

Question... two days ago I went from stock rom/kernel to CM7 through ROM manager (I got the download from there and everything) and the install seemed to be fine, with the cache and data wiping fine, but I yesterday I tried to boot up and it was stuck at the motologo, so I wiped the data and cache and tried again. Eventually I just ended up sbf-ing. I want to run CM7 but I don't know what's wrong...

Well first of all, welcome to the darkside. And start from the beginning...rooted? Which nightly build did you download? Did CM7 work at all for you? How long did it loop at the motologo before you did a battery pull? Try booting up in moto recovery (hold x and power up, continue holding x till you see the droid then press the search magnifying glass on your physical keyboard.) Then wiping and factory reset, then installing cm7 via CW and once again wiping everything.

Yes I was rooted, and as soon as I sbf-ed, one of the first things I did I rooted again. CW 7 worked for a good 3 hours before I shut my phone down and problems ensued. I downloaded build 1 and the moto logo was up for a good 15 minutes.

I would suggest deleting the downloaded CM7 Zip file and re-downloading either the same file or one of the latest unofficial roms. Installing through clockwork in the same manner you did previously. just make sure the download is the right size. I had the same problem as you and I finally figured out my download was corrupted

I had the exact same problem the first time I installed the rom. I downloaded the latest nightly (again), sbf'd (again), re-rooted (again, (you probably get the point by now)), wiped data/cache and davlik, installed rom via CW, and wiped everything again. It's been working fantastically since. I hope that helps.

Yes. And it only worked after I wiped after the install.
