[ROM] [ROM] Droid Concepts Froyo Releases [BETA versions]

Review time....

This is my first time using a Droid Concepts ROM so I thought I would throw a little review out there for anyone who may be new as well. I've been trying many many many ROMs lately including every GB ROM that has been released. First and foremost, my OG droid WILL NOT run a GB ROM properly at all. Everyone and their brother has told me that their ROM is stable and a work of art, blau, blau blau but the 3G issue never went away. Also, my camcorder never worked like it should. Maybe it's just my phone and not the ROMS fault.
I keep reverting back to my trusty Charity Froyo ROM until something new comes out for me to test. I've been following the development of this ROM and thought I would finally give it a try even though it is still in Beta. The ROM manager download and install only resulted in a hanging Motorola logo so I did a battery pull and loaded up the Recovery and installed it that way. Making sure that I did ROM, G-apps, Kernel, Extras in that order. This time I was greeted by the Boot animation (sweet, btw) and the welcome screen. I did the usual settings that I always did. Once Google synced, I went to Wireless and the market downloaded my apps. Next I used MyBackup Pro and restored my SMS and MMS, then set up Swiftkey using the SMS library that I restored. Next I set up Zeam Launcher and all my widgets. Lastly, I went into the DC settings and set the kernel to 250-900 interactive
Now it was time to test. I updated my PRL first via *228 (a new one was available, yay) and performed a speed test. Slight improvement but nothing noteworthy. Next I hooked up the phone to my laptop to see if the built in tether worked as I use it a lot at work. And it did. I then tested the rest of my apps that I use often and I'm happy to report that they all worked with no lag and no FCs. This ROM is running very smooth and so far flawless. If I come across any bugs, I'll be sure to report them. Also, I really like the theme and the font that comes loaded as default. Great job all around to the Devs and this is one team that I'll be following closely. DC is now my ROM of choice and look forward to future releases. Thank you for continuing the development of Froyo for the OG Droid.

I follow my review with a couple of questions: I noticed that my notification bar went into hiding when I used AWD launcher. Is that a option with the launcher or the ROM? I use Zeam and would love to hide it but couldn't find the setting. Just for giggles, I defaulted back to AWD but the notification bar didn't hide like it did last time. Was that a fluke or something?

Second question: I don't have that many free apps that have ads, but the ones I do have are now showing ads that didn't use to be there. Is the Ad blocker not loaded into this ROM? What can I do to disable them again? Will it be incorporated into the final build or should I find a third party solution?

The hiding notification bar is a setting in ADW.

The adblock is not enabled in this ROM. You can use root tools, but there is a command line too...I just don't know it.

as for adw there is a setting to hide the notification bar, im pretty sure...ive never used zeam launcher so im not sure about that...

as for the ads showing up, heres how to block them, ...

open the dev tools app in your app drawer,
then scroll down to terminal and open it

then type:

su (enter key)

blockads (enter key)

edit---guidot, a little faster on the draw than I, lol, well played :)

Yes it is a feature in build.prop but it also needs to be in the ROM, sometimes people remove the function or its not working, it is working in this ROM. If its not working I would say to do this

reboot into recovery wipe everything
reboot
sign in
then just leave your phone alone you cant text or do anything to break the internet connection when its trying to sync/download your stuff or it wont work.

For example if i wipe and reboot then sign in and text someone and browse the internet or somthing almost every time it never restores anything but my gmail and contacts.
BUT
if i sign in and just set it down and leave it alone while it does its thing it ALWAYS re downloads all my apps and everything..

Forgive my vain attempt at technical knowledge, but isn't the market restore ability a function of the build.prop file? I lost my restore ability over multiple roms and recently went back to stock, rooted FRG83G and suddenly the feature was back.

LOL, I can get you the DC logo as well but if your doing it do the black one, and a regular colored one.. ;)

It just occurred to me this rom has a custom boot animation and wallpapers, but no boot logo. I think Woody's avatar would work nicely. It looks great in the settings menu, btw. I could make a boot logo if I had a source image, assuming I had permission?

Hmm, You mean a logo specific to DC or in general?

I still have my Moto logo, do you not?

Specific, yes. I make my own using Shibbey's app, linked in my sig.

LOL, just a busy weekend man, and trying to work on adding new things and still getting the site in order, and everything. there will be a new build soon though..

2 1/2 days have passed and still no update!?? This is preposterous...slacking too much!! :0

(Selling Signature space) $5/month :)

Thanks for the great review man, I see you already got your answer which is good.. lol.. but dont hesitate to ask any more questions or leave any more feedback, i appreciate the involvement and support.. :)

this rom since the first couple builds has been excellent...and with every update it gets even better...how is everyones battery life? mine is the best i think ive ever seen...im clocked at 1100, and i do alot of rebooting, flashing, testing, and the battery life is incredible

But of course, I always give options :)

Davros already offered up a small image, which was about the same resolution as your avatar. I need something larger, since the boot logo is 480x182 pixels, preferably twice the size.

Woody should have an image that big... I sent him some wallpaper size..

Ah I see, so that was your work? Cool, nice job btw. If possible, can I get a transparent png from either of you? That way it will blend perfectly over whatever background.

FYI...I tried your approach x2 and got no Market restore of apps. Certainly not a critical issue but a nice to have.

Thanks,

Mike
