I'm currently running Liquid 2.1, a gingerbread ROM. I was having terrible performance with GB roms before I switched to Liquid, and it's been pretty great. I'm wondering though about switching back to a Froyo based ROM. Recommendations on this? How's it running performance wise? I came to Droid Concepts because it's an actively maintained Froyo ROM and that's probably the best for my OG Droid. Thanks.
I've been a long time Liquid GB user/advocate but I've grown weary of GB not being on a linear path to "getting" better. It seems that lately, as some issues get fixed, other new issues crop up. Issues that didn't exist in previous releases. For example, in any GB rom I've tinkered with (and I've tinkered) you can never rely 100% on say, the camera, to just quickly fire up and take pics. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Depending on ROM releases, AOSP updates, etc...
Or, with GB, the whole memory management thing is a little crazy. Do this thing, run that script, tweak this setting, run that task killer app, don't run that task killer app, supercharge this, uncheck that... In the end, I've not found a single magic bullet to that issue.
So, now I have two goto ROMs that I keep up to date at all times. I've currently got Liquid GB 2.2 and DC 11. When I'm at home and don't need to rely on the device being 100% I'll flip over to LGB. If I'm out of town and need the device to be 100%... camera, messaging, browser, phone, etc..., I use DC11.
The bottom line is though... functionally there is very little to get excited about with GB based ROMs. LGB does have some very nice bells/whistles... like the custom brightness stuff... a more customizable status bar power widget... lots of little things that add up to a really nice GB ROM. But in the end, if the GB ROM doesn't do the basics... really really well... it's hard to argue against going back to Froyo.
