[ROM][DROID2] ApeX V2.0.0 Release Candidate (RC2) (6/12/2011)

Is this a simple upgrade or are there some additional trick I need to do to get to 2.0?

*** Hmmm, went through clockwork and downloaded 2.0.... Just reloaded and reboot, and I am stuck at a boot screen that says "Google" and just hangs. I did a ROM backup before upgrading, so if I rename to backup under clockworkmod to update.zip, will that work? That doesn't seem to work, so what is the trick to getting the stock recovery tool to read a Clockworkmod ROM backup? Or should I just pull down the Apex 1.4.1 and reload off of that?

Secondly, since now I am on a mission to move up to 2.0, what prep work do I need to do in order to my Droid X ready for 2.0... I would seem an updated kernel at the very least... Anything else?

Is 1.4.1 a GB ROM or Froyo ROM? You need to be on a .596 GB ROM before flashing 2.0 I believe. FWIW I did the full circus loop (SBF to Froyo, rooted & installed busybox/D2bootstrapper, flashed the two GB part zip, installed busybox/D2bootstrapper, then flashed 2.0 RC2) and have had zero problems. Not bad for my first time around!

Since you've had a few failed flashes/backup attempts I'm thinking this would be your best bet...There is an easy SBF method and once you have all of the files downloaded it should take less than an hour....

Thanks for the quick response and the key pointers... It has been a long long while since I have tried to get creative on my DX. I will take each of your solutions and see if I can be stellar in a hour or so... I am lost on the GB zip that you mentioned...

This thread has a good overall:
[Guide] Froyo to Gingerbread

The two part gingerbread zip can be found here. You want the two zips under the " Patched update.zip (not signed)" heading.

For ease, make sure you get the Droid2 bootstrapper. Flash the first zip, let it finish, then flash the second zip in the same session.

Once you're on GB re-install busybox and D2 bootstrapper, then you can go ahead and flash Apex 2.0 (for good measure make sure you wipe data/cache/dalvik cache a few times before the 2 zip flash and the Apex flash).

At what point am I suppost to sbf to .596? Or is that needed after I load in the two zip updates?

You sbf once which brings you to froyo so you can root. then you flash to. 596 with the two part zip (this gives you a rooted version of blur gingerbread) and from there you can flash to Apex 2.0

Thanks... I am good to go and every thing is nearly back to normal. The only issue that I am suffering from is that when using my bluetooth headset, if I adjust the volume, the bluetooth connection drops. If I power the headset off and on, it still won't connect, and turning off bluetooth and back on from settings doesn't make it work.

Is it just me, or has anyone else run into the issue?

same issue here

Still having a couple of issues. First and most annoying is issues with bluetooth. The moment that there is any adjustment to the volume, the bluetooth connection is drop. I usually have to shutdown and restart the phone before I can connect.

Secondly, the phone rings with sound out for a partial first ring, then only the vibration is heard. I have played with ring volume, etc., and still it will not fully ring.

I really hate to have to do a wipe and start over again... Thank goodness for Titanium back up....

Unlike just about everyone else, I absolutely love Blur, and I originally thought that this ROM's lack of it would be a dealbreaker for me. Surprisingly however, I'm actually quite fond of this ROM, but I would like to do some tinkering with it. The Terminal Emulator scripts I saw at the beginning of this thread were apparently for restoring Blur apps; this app is fine without Blur; I'm just interested in non-Blur related customization. How do I do that?

this is my first rom installation and i am digging it thoroughly so far. i dropped GO Launcher in just because i like it. but the system feels extremely light weight.
