[ROM] Liberty Gingerbread v0.4 - Return of the Eagle

Well idk what I did, if anything, but my market's working again. I'm afraid to try LG v.5 again though if that was the initial cause of my problems.

Going from v4 to v5. Installed the update with the kernel. It's been about 15 min and still stuck on the yellow fist. Should I wait it out or pull the battery?

Phone Model:Droid X
Rom:Liberty
Version:0.5
Additional Mods:running GB 4.5.588 with a .591 kernel update

Attempting to get Netflix to work with Liberty Rom
neither .apk found on xda is able to stream video nor sound.

Also have tried Liberty v0.4 no success there.

On a positive note...
It did work on GB 4.5.573 with no ROM
Additionally it worked with GB 4.5.595 with no ROM

However...
Did not appear to work with GB 4.5.588

Any tips?

Hello great ones,

Firstly, I would like to say that I'm no stranger to Android and rooting (from the old G1 and CM3.8 days till putting Rubix 2.0.1 on my DX). In addition, for the last 2 days I've done nothing but read this forum and XDA (thank god my girlfriend is out of town).

After messing up quite a few times, and SBFing twice, I cannot understand what I am doing wrong. I would also like to point out that I might be over-doing or over-looking something. I'm quite neurotic, and my neurosis would even put Woody Allen to shame (and yes, I literally had to google Woody Allen to make sure it wasn't spelled "Allan" and that you guys would all judge me for writing his name incorrectly on a droid x forum).

- I originally came from Rubix 2.0.1 (excellent Froyo rom btw)
- I performed a SBF back to 2.3.340
- I even synced and waited for the phone to be 100% kosher
- I installed z4root
- I ran z4root
- I installed BootstrapX (I will always keep a warm spot in my heart for that app and developer)
- I (happily) donated $5 for the Liberty-Tool-Box-donated (as any true Android fan and adventurer would gladly do so - though I'm not judging)
- At this point, I went ahead and let the toolbox install 2.0.1 (with backup and wipe)

At this point, what I have come to understand is that I am running Liberty 2.0.1 ontop of froyo (2.2.1 according to my "about phone").

(this is not a bad rom so far, btw... but the goal is GB)

now, it is my understanding that by installing and using the nightlies in Liberty-tool-box-donated it should be able to do all the work for me in transitioning from froyo to GB, right? this could be where I'm getting the wrong idea, please correct me if I am. But when it comes to the dev's instructions, it sounds like that's one of the key benefits of the toolbox.

At this point:
- should I install BootstrapX from the market or through Liberty (which does not show in my app drawer)?
- Am I wrong in assuming that installing from within the toolbox the FULL v0.1 (for Froyo) should work and bring me to GB?

I definitely got (and SBFed successfully) the "bricked" ERR bootloader before when I tried to install the full v0.1 (for Froyo). I can't tell you which one initially screwed me up but I did make 2 mistakes before:
- one time I forgot to select wipe in the dropbox
- eventually I felt stuck on the liberty logo, pulled battery and that definitely led to me needing the SBF.

Please, oh great ones, let me know if I just freaked out before or if I am doing something wrong (or if I am misconceiving something about Froyo to GB, or 2.3.340 to GB, or do I need a leak in order to get to GB, etc...)

If you're on 2.0.1 currently and able to boot into bootstrap via the toolbox then go ahead and download the full v0.1 from the nightlies. Choose to wipe and it should install for you just fine. It'll definitely take a while at the liberty logo on the first boot though.

If you decide you want to go from v0.1 to v0.5 make sure you download both the v0.5 update and the .591 kernel update. I'd manually boot into bootstrap from the toolbox and install these two updates myself if i was you. You'll need to install both of those updates one after another otherwise certain services wont function on v0.5.

Try using the pulldown editor and changing it to what it should say for Verizon (maybe Verizon Wireless).

Liberty Gingerbread v0.5
Ah. Had no idea it was related to the pulldown. Thanks.

Honestly, I didn't know either until I happened to see my "Network ID" in settings as my actual name...The only thing I changed to have my actual name was the pulldown. Definintely interesting and I hope it worked for you!

You guys (and gals) really are great. That's the fastest response I've ever gotten.

I'll just wait another hour in case someone sees a mistake I didn't notice and also posts a correction.

I think my biggest mistake is being too impulsive (I love Android so much).

Thanks so much,
Ace

I love this forum too for the valuable and helpful information everyone provides...

One thing to note, I'm responding not because of an error in what kilahimm posted. I'm just providing a link to a thread in this forum and my path to GB v0.5 (post #15). What kilahimm said will definitely get you to where you want to go.

What you will find is that there are likely a few diffrerent paths to get to the end result with each being successful as long as you read, read, and read some more to make sure you are confident enough.

Hope everything works out for you!!

I'm actually trying Apex 2.0 right now, so I haven't gotten a chance to try it. I noticed that with my Wigle Wardriving, it has shown a bunch of new cell towers as Liberty, too :(. Maybe having that changed by default is not such a good idea.
