Im_Gumby;702232The settings of those apps can be restored via Titanium Backup... assuming you ran it before loading the new ROM.[/quote said:
Will MyBackup restore the settings if I select to backup 'apk+data'?

I have titanium backup (not paid yet), but I am not sure how to use/backup within it... therefore I used MyBackup but havent needed to restore yet so idk what all it restores

Thanks!

Not familiar with MyBackup... but I would assume apk+data would do the same thing.

I don't think mybackup links to the market, like titanium backup does.

Let me clear this up. Reware's MyBackup will back up the App (.apk) and the data folder from /Data/Data if you select APK+DATA. Additionally if it was a Market downloaded app, it will restore Market links, meaning you will get update notifications when the app gets updated.

That said, the Market linking may only be possible on a rooted handset. I know that I get a pop-up that asks if I want to enable additional features for Root users.. one of which I think is to restore those market links. Does that make sense?

Awesome, thanks ya!

Hmm .. been running this since release and realized I can't download anything drum the browser from my phone (ROMS kernels, etc..) am I missing something in the settings? I didn't change anything to prevent it.

is this in rom manager or any download- I had to flash nandroid, then back to rom manager AFTER A REBOOT, and version 2.02.0 twice, first flash was SLOWWWW second FAST then it worked fine. did a recovery reboot backed up, and ever since all is good. chrome to phone, downloads from web, market all work.

more details on your problem would be helpful. IE do downloads start and fail, not start at all, do nothing when you click online links, give certain specific errors??

They start like they always did, ya know, "starting download", then the arrow in the notification bar. Then says "download unsuccessful ". Does that for everything I attempt to download from browser.

This same thing happened to me once and it was because my SD-Card was full.

Try this:

Go into the downloads folder and then delete any partially downloaded failed files with the same name of the file you are trying to download.

Then make sure you have plenty of space on your SD-Card and just for good measure, go into Application Management and delete the cache for your Browser app.

Then go try the download again.

I just want to ask a question here, I'm not sure what is happening there... but I just want to understand your position. Why would you *not* use Clockwork Recovery? I don't see any benefit in using a recovery that isn't built on top of the ROM flashing app, and the de-facto standard for recovery/ROM flashing. I mean, I periodically hear about people running SP Recovery, and it doesn't make sense to me. Sorry for my curiosity, just wondering.

I would not really say that CW Recovery is the "de facto standard"-it is one of two major options.

I do have ROM Manager, but I primarily use SPRecovery, simply because I have had issues with ROM Manager and CW Recovery hosing my phone. A search will reveal others having flaky behavior as well.

Understand, I am in no way trying to dis ROM Manager, the recovery or the dev-I think the app is extremely cool and has been designed to handle a much wider scope of functions. However, while flashing with SPRecovery is more work and not as slick, it always, always works and I have never had an issue.

For me, with things like this, I would rather do more work and have more confidence in the system and better stability than have greater convenience on the front end, but spending that time anyway trying to fix something that got hosed up.

Just one man's opinion.

I have never really tried Clockwork to have an opinion about it...But I have never had any issues while using SPRecovery, and I use it quite a bit.

Edit: The only issue I have ever had with SPRecovery is sometimes I make the Recovery name to big and it gives me an error to cut it down a couple characters lol

I also feel the same way about ROM Manager that it isn't always as stable as SPRecovery, but for the most part, it has been my experience that whenever ROM Manager ever had issues, they were usually tied to a certain version release (like right after the Market would update it, then it might've been buggy until the developer would usually fix it with a new build pretty quickly after a day or two).

I too have had a couple issues where ROM Manager was not reliable, but this was months ago. I have not had issues with it for a long time. But I still am a bit nervous about relying on it 100%, so whenever I perfect a build and get it just like I want it, I do install SPRecovery for a few minutes and perform a backup with it, but then I flash ClockworkMod back on and use that for the rest of the time. So I'd estimate that I get 1-2 SPRecovery for every 8-10 ClockworkMod backups I take.

I really DO like the convenience of ROM Manager since it can download all ROMs directly from the source and you can customize the features right there and then poof, it automatically can backup current ROM and you have the option to wipe cache and data, and it reboots, flashes and reboots back into the system without any further user intervention.

Lately what I do though, is first boot manually into recovery and then I clear cache partition ONLY, so that I don't have to clear data (ROM Manager only gives option to clear both data and cache, not one or the other). So then after I clear cache, I will reboot and go into ROM Manager and build the ROM I want. If I want to restore to a previous ROM, I usually select reboot into recovery and manually clear cache there, and then select the ROM I want to restore to in there.

I also just keep all the kernels in a folder on the SD Card so if I want to change one, I just reboot into recovery and select 'install zip from SD Card', since CLockworkMod lets you install zips with any file name.

As far as ClockworkMod hosing the phone, that is not possible I don't think. Back when they DID have problems with ROM Manager/ClockworkMod having issues with backup and restore (which I believe are fixed now), it would only restore a ROM which may not work right, but it was still always recoverable. I was always able to do 'Power' + 'X' and get recovery and re-flash something in that would work. I did once have to manually flash SPRecovery back on so I could flash back one of those backups back onto my phone.

So nowadays to avoid issues with ROM Manager, I just never update ROM Manager right when the updates show up in the Market, as I usually wait a couple days and then read the user comments and if people say that the update broke their backups or restores, then I just pass on that update since I always know the one I got works reliably.

Sorry, I always have such long postings. I never know how to cut them down shorter and still get my point across I guess.

I agree! Can't wait for the call slider to get fixed and then we're talking perfection! I don't see myself switching to another ROM anytime soon!dancedroid

Hey, did you try resetting your FONTS back to defaults and see if your call slider gets fixed. It sounds like a few people here have fixed this problem by either restoring back to default FONT, or by making the FONT size smaller. Because it sounded like if the FONT in question is too large it would make the whole screen wider and thus would shift the slider off of the side.

I've never had any issues with the call slider using Lithium Mod since I've always just selected the default FONT.

I like how Absolute system is your answer for everything :) Nice job on it btw I use it alot

Gotta get that advertising in :) and thanks for the kind words, i just want this thing to be the best :) It will only get better with time....haha

Just an idea for the next version of Absolute System (if its possible), make it so you can change font colors of the notification bar? just the standard theme colors should be fine unless you can have it so you can just choose a color from a spectrum, which would be awesome. but simple is good enough for me lol

YES, I would love to see this too. I'd also like to be able to change the colors of all the FONTS, globally, in every menu of the entire phone if possible.

Ok, so I've learned a lot over the last couple days about ROMs and themes and kernels (oh my!) but I have a few more questions...

I initially flashed BB .4 with no issues. Then I flashed the NexTang ported theme, no issues. I then flashed a P3Droid kernel, no issues....

Now I want to give the Lithium Mod NexTang ROM a shot.

First Question: Do I have to perform a wipe?

Second: How can I perform a wipe (if necissary) without using ROM Manager (have been having issues)?

Third: If I do have to wipe, will Lithium Mod auto-install my apps (Like BB .4 did?

Thanks! I just want to keep this no issues thing going :)

You do not need to wipe as long as you are coming from a Froyo 2.2 based ROM. Just boot into recovery first and make sure you ALWAYS clear cache first, then burn your ROM in. Just make sure you back up your current ROM before doing anything, so you can always go back if things backfire. If the upgrade does not go well (when not doing data wipe), then you might consider doing a wipe and fresh install.

Also, you want to make sure you install Titanium Backup and use that to manually backup all of your installed apps. This app has the ability to also backup all private apps and system apps, so it is better than the app backup tool in Astro File Browser (which I also use for redundancy). Because theoretically, Google SHOULD automatically restore all your apps, but many of these people say (and I have had this happen several times as well), but sometimes the Google restore process becomes broken and restores may only complete on some apps and not all apps, or maybe not any apps. So with Titanium Backup, you can restore any apps which don't come back on their own.

Also, if you don't see apps in the Market that you know should be there, there is a Market_Fix.zip that will fix that issue. But I think they only recommend running that zip, ONLY if you have that problem of not seeing certain apps in the Market (may not affect everyone).

If you do decide that you want to wipe clean and start fresh, boot into recovery, and select reset to phone defaults, and I think there's an option for wipe data in there. The option might depend on whether you have ClockworkMod flashed on, or if you have SPRecovery flashed on. But all the options you need to wipe are in the menu in whatever recovery console you have flashed onto the phone (well, the stock recovery doesn't have the options for backup/restore).

Just make sure you back up your ROM as often as possible so if you do some step that didn't work right, you have that bread crumb trail to go back to a known-good point and then you can retry to move forward again. Also know, that some people claim they have had to perform the same install several times before it worked right.

Something seems to be happening though that occasionally causes people to have to attempt installing several times before they have success. I've never had this problem, but I usually just go slow and do everything step at a time, and backup the ROM a lot between steps. And for initial install, using ROM Manager say, I don't veer too far off default settings for the initial install like changing FONTS, and selecting live wallpapers and such. I worry about all the bells and whistles later. Just go with basic default setup, and once installed, then when you know it all works good, then make changes one-at-a-time so if something breaks, you will know the precise cause of failure, and therefore it is easy to find your way back and move toward something that works.

When I add-in a Calendar widget to a homescreen, the color of the font is black on that widget and so you can't read the text if the wallpaper is dark color.

See pics:

Is there some way that I could manually change the font color?

I have the same problem in Key Lime Theme. Also, I've heard you can change the font size to fix the answer phone slider. Just how is this done? I see how to change fonts but not the size??

i love this rom with the alternate dark theme but could someone please help me change the battery icon to match. i want the silver batt but also love the percentage. thanks

Exchange

Sorry if this has been asked but I haven't located it as of yet. With the Lithium Mod Roms I am unable to connect to Exchange (my work email) after the update. Anyone else have this issue and what would cause that? I tried a Bugless 0.4 update and I am able to connect to Exchange but for some reason with Lithium i'm not able to. I'd like to use Lithium because it seems much cooler looking and have a lot of great things.

Any help would be awesome!
