I just want to ask a question here, I'm not sure what is happening there... but I just want to understand your position. Why would you *not* use Clockwork Recovery? I don't see any benefit in using a recovery that isn't built on top of the ROM flashing app, and the de-facto standard for recovery/ROM flashing. I mean, I periodically hear about people running SP Recovery, and it doesn't make sense to me. Sorry for my curiosity, just wondering.

I would not really say that CW Recovery is the "de facto standard"-it is one of two major options.

I do have ROM Manager, but I primarily use SPRecovery, simply because I have had issues with ROM Manager and CW Recovery hosing my phone. A search will reveal others having flaky behavior as well.

Understand, I am in no way trying to dis ROM Manager, the recovery or the dev-I think the app is extremely cool and has been designed to handle a much wider scope of functions. However, while flashing with SPRecovery is more work and not as slick, it always, always works and I have never had an issue.

For me, with things like this, I would rather do more work and have more confidence in the system and better stability than have greater convenience on the front end, but spending that time anyway trying to fix something that got hosed up.

Just one man's opinion.

I have never really tried Clockwork to have an opinion about it...But I have never had any issues while using SPRecovery, and I use it quite a bit.

Edit: The only issue I have ever had with SPRecovery is sometimes I make the Recovery name to big and it gives me an error to cut it down a couple characters lol

I agree! Can't wait for the call slider to get fixed and then we're talking perfection! I don't see myself switching to another ROM anytime soon!dancedroid

Hmm .. been running this since release and realized I can't download anything drum the browser from my phone (ROMS kernels, etc..) am I missing something in the settings? I didn't change anything to prevent it.

is this in rom manager or any download- I had to flash nandroid, then back to rom manager AFTER A REBOOT, and version 2.02.0 twice, first flash was SLOWWWW second FAST then it worked fine. did a recovery reboot backed up, and ever since all is good. chrome to phone, downloads from web, market all work.

more details on your problem would be helpful. IE do downloads start and fail, not start at all, do nothing when you click online links, give certain specific errors??

They start like they always did, ya know, "starting download", then the arrow in the notification bar. Then says "download unsuccessful ". Does that for everything I attempt to download from browser.

And no, im not talking about rom manager. Haven't tried downloading off of there. This is strickly a browser issue as far as downloading goes. Tried many themes and still can't seem to get it to work. Ideas?

...quick question off topic. While in CWR, before I choose install zip from sdcard, do I want the scripts asserts enabled or disabled?

Just an idea for the next version of Absolute System (if its possible), make it so you can change font colors of the notification bar? just the standard theme colors should be fine unless you can have it so you can just choose a color from a spectrum, which would be awesome. but simple is good enough for me lol

Ok, so I've learned a lot over the last couple days about ROMs and themes and kernels (oh my!) but I have a few more questions...

I initially flashed BB .4 with no issues. Then I flashed the NexTang ported theme, no issues. I then flashed a P3Droid kernel, no issues....

Now I want to give the Lithium Mod NexTang ROM a shot.

First Question: Do I have to perform a wipe?

Second: How can I perform a wipe (if necissary) without using ROM Manager (have been having issues)?

Third: If I do have to wipe, will Lithium Mod auto-install my apps (Like BB .4 did?

Thanks! I just want to keep this no issues thing going :)

I believe it isn't strictly necessary when flashing from one ROM to another of the same release level, but it really doesn't hurt to do it before installing the new ROM, so why not do it?

Second: How can I perform a wipe (if necissary) without using ROM Manager (have been having issues)?

Assuming you have SPRecovery installed, reboot into it (power on while holding X key on keyboard)

Second item on the menu = wipe data/factory reset
Third item on the menu = wipe cache partition

I use the wipe cache partition option.

Third: If I do have to wipe, will Lithium Mod auto-install my apps (Like BB .4 did?)

Auto-install of apps is a google thing, not a ROM thing AFAIK.
The settings of those apps can be restored via Titanium Backup... assuming you ran it before loading the new ROM.

Will MyBackup restore the settings if I select to backup 'apk+data'?

I have titanium backup (not paid yet), but I am not sure how to use/backup within it... therefore I used MyBackup but havent needed to restore yet so idk what all it restores

Thanks!

I suppose that it is opinion based, but the functionality that is offered by CWRecovery far exceeds that of SP recovery, and it appears that it is more consistently developed? I could be wrong on that. The functionality of being able to mount the SD card, format partitions, etc- all from within the recovery environment make that and easy choice for me.

I did have an issue once where CWRecovery wouldn't update when new versions were being released. Even with a flash to SP and back didn't fix it. I actually had to uninstall ROM Manager, and delete the folder on the SD card, then reinstall, and re-flash to get it to update again. Even while that was happening though, I didn't have any issues with the older recovery version that was currently flashed.

I'm not all about glitz and front end UI prettiness, I'm a shell user (as you can see by my posts.. :) and I like the options and features offered to me within the recovery. The fact that ROM Manger can download all the parts of the ROM, and flash on the fly is just a bonus for me. I can flash ROMs at the Red Lobster if I want. I'd have to pre-download, or use the browser to download it over 3G, rename the files to update.zip.. idk. I guess I just don't see the argument for SPRecovery being better just because it never has -any- issues.. well except for functionality issues like too many characters.. idk. :)

Not familiar with MyBackup... but I would assume apk+data would do the same thing.
