[ROM Release] Sourcery ROM V2.0

Status
Not open for further replies.
Love the rom and have been using it since first release but I have always had problems switching kernals, fonts, themes etc. I will click the link and the "magic happening" box will pop up. This will then just sit there and do nothing. I have wiped data/cache after each install. Anything I might be doing wrong here?

Also, I downloaded a theme from the sourcery site in zip form. Is there a link to animation zips I can just download and flash via clockwork?

Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Make sure "USB Debugging" is checked.

Also, if you have Titanium Backup, download their BusyBox. This isn't confirmed to work but it may have helped me, so it could potentially help you too. Check for USB Debugging first though.

Just tried turning on USB Debugging and that worked. Always the simplest thing. Thanks.

Observations, Investigations and Instigations

First off a big round of applause for all involved with 2.0 and its magical magicalliness. It is very magical if you haven't checked it out.

Don't uninstall teleporter mid-teleport. Trust me, my brother is now a eunuch.

If you checked the toke box in settings and haven't noticed the difference, you aren't doing it right. I will hold a webinar for those who are in need of assistance.

URCERY, actually really bothered me as it just was not something I would have thought the boys could miss.
But...there is a fix. I went down to the Secretary of State and had my legal first name changed from Adam to URCERY, now my lockscreen says my name...neat. Yes, that is correct, Adam. Danceswithbongs is my tribal name.

Quick question regarding the change background option, which screens backgrounds will be changed? All or just call list and clock settings? Just want to be clear as to what I am changing.

Also, Eagle, does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?

2.0 is the talk of the forums, examples: UD's GB release held up, no problem because I am on Sourcery 2.0. PE42 discussion, sounds great but time to try Sourcery 2.0. In fact, and it may have gone unnoticed by some, but there is even now an entire sub forum for Sourcery...what..what's that...I'm on it now....awesome.

Other than some minor bugs that seem to be working themselves out, phenomenal full release.

Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and Super Bowl.
Weekends were made for flashing.

Enjoy and thanks team urcery

URCERY aka danceswithbongs

Also be on the lookout for the mutant offspring from tanknspank, yepitsme and yankindasouth.
It goes by the name YepYanknSpankMe, but also answers to the call urcery:icon_eek:

Anyone else experiencing serious battery drops? Mine just dropped from 80 to 50 about a minute...

I noticed this the other day on another ROM which is why I am reading this thread since I am looking for a nice rom with good battery life. So after seeing this I am starting to wonder if it is something that is more broad, and not ROM specific. Anyone else having battery issues? I really want to try this one out, but battery life is the one thing I want the most.

Check out cpu tuner. It throttles the cpu based on battery life, and I've found though it can hit 65% pretty quick (no surprise with overclocking and all) but once cpu tuner starts battery saving mode, it can go forever. The cpu settings and changeover points are all customizable.

I have mine set to performance whilst plugged in. Then good til 75% battery. Then normal til 50%. Then power saver to 25%, then extreme power saver for under 25% battery life. It can even do things like turn off/on wifi/bluetooth/gps etc based on battery life.

I have SetCPU installed. Doesn't that do the same thing?

My Battery life has been stellar. Well, relatively. Much better than the other ROMs I have tried. Give it a try, what do you have to lose?

Its possible, I didn't see if set cpu had battery profiles, if it does it wasn't easily accessable. I just removed it and stuck with what I'm used to.

Yes it does , right on top when you open Set CPU it's called 'PROFILES'
Second one from the left............LOOK ! But id doesn't turn off/on wifi/bluetooth/gps etc based on battery life.

Ah, ok then, I'll admit I didn't look very hard, lol. Think I'll stick with cpu tuner anyway. I like wifi turning off on its own when I unplug the phone.

How long have you been using CPU Tuner ? I might just have to give it a try, anything that helps to conserve the battery. Thanks for the headsup.

All
Battery issues are very common amongst all roms. Most of the "experts" (which leaves me out :) ) say that when going to a new rom to wipe battery stats...let the phone drain to reboot. charge it, drain it fully again and then recharge. This lets the battery get used to the new rom/kernel.

I am a moderate user and unplug in morning..by days end im still at 50-60% so ive not had to worry about battery :) hope this helps...

market can be funny like that...while testing i had that happen a couple of times, but then next time it worked like a charm.

battery life hopefully will improve...i usually have worse battery life until a couple of reboots have gone by.

you didn't install a version of wireless tether from your tibu restore that's interfering? it worked for me during test. we'll get back to this one.

modified contact apps are just that...modified

the iHear network was a cute app eagle1967 found and got permission to use since it was listed in market as a teleporter. thot it fit right in with the magic. can use a file manager to delete it.

1) also the market..if you installed one of these newer markets that force closed they often reset you app memory and although it looks great because when you log in it shows installed apps they are no long remember for automatic download.

2) must install rom than gapps. when you boot up sign in through the green android it will work 99% of the time.
if you use TB to restore apps and data. you are bound to have peoblems Sourcery is not the only rom with problems with TB it is highly mentioned in most rom sections. thats why i link to actngrezy's great write up although i have tried this since TB has caused 95% of all problems with sourcery it wont ever make it to my phone. But if actngrezy says taht way will work i trust him.

3) battery life takes a few runs with a new rom to settle in. but also first install you run it alot more than you realize and the screen adn redownloading apps eats battery like crazy.

4) i just uninstalled and installed wireless tether 4 timnes without a problem i did this through terminal so i could watch the download occur.

5) make sure you have usb debugging turned on

6) the modified apps. i just installed the modified # 2 my favotites are there and it has 4 litings for my mom including home address. wish i could remember which app added that so i could have it for all my contacts.

7)as listen said the app is small its a joke and can be eaisly removed from system/app with astro using wizard mode or any root explorer. It will be in the delte apps in next version just got permission for it to late to get it added. its kinda fun kinda like the tv off on gignerbread cool for a few tried. but i am in contact with the developer s and from what i have been told this will be come a darn cool app. I very happy to be involved in getting it out there.

I am concerned about the nice improvement over 1.3 with what you listed as facts about this rom. I would say its a big step down luckily these are just not common to 2.0

I suggest you reinstall from scratch reading the release notes and give it a try.

I know you were a big supporter at the other site there quinlon so im dissapointed that you would think that we would released a rom with these problems. rather than coming to us and saying hey this is happening and letting us try to help you out.

I believe the most important thing is read the actnegrezy write up on TB if you must use that.
we have also seen that TB tends to break our busybox which may be why your downloads are not functioning. we have had 1 case where they installed the busybox from TB and that fixed the problem.

Noone sems to realize we are the first to have it scrolling :) but it was something new thats 2 that dont like it so if that trend continues well remove it . I thought it ws cool and figured people dont spend much time at the lock screen, guess im wrong :) Also dont forget if you dont need a lock screen there is a tab in the galaxy-s widget taht bypasses so you go from sleep to desktop no lock screen ever seen. Like the other thread says this is an experience and everyone needs to be involved to make this a great rom. we cant tell what everyone likes. so continue with suggestions anyone that has been around can see we tried to add everything and fix everything people asked of us.

for those that suggested and i was unable to do it i personally messaged them to let them know it wasnt in and why.

Also read the changelog in the rom so you know where to go to find the new features such as removing backgrounds if you need to see the clock times you can do this now by simply pressing 1 button in the magic commands and remove the backgrounds no more blacked out alarm times no more squished up test in phone log. while still giving the benefit of cool backgrounds to those that want ti and you can now even pout in your own backgrounds.

So please try a reinstall and let us know and remember we are at irc freenode #sourcery to help you ussually someone is there to help you out.

I hope these suggestions help you out.

I know it was long but took it as a good chance to go through some stuff that may help others out also.
As always we hope you continue to enjoy Sourcery and we appreciate your use so we can enjoy continuing to make people smile :)
Thanks for your replies, Listenman and Eagle.

I would have come to IRC to go over my issues, but I was away from PC most of the weekend and once I got home, I just wanted to leave a quick note with my observations. Probably should have just popped into IRC with those, my bad.

Did install ROM, then gapps, and then rebooted. As far market goes, I only use the stock market that comes with the ROM, and once that didn't restore apps, I used TiBu and followed actncrazy's instructions to the T. But I suppose your suggestion of starting all over from scratch is the most sensible thing to do. If I run into any trouble, I'll pop in IRC.

Thanks again for your replies.
Just a follow up on my earlier post. A fresh re-install yielded restoration of ~75% of my apps through market automatically. I DL'd the rest manually, so that part went smoother. Modified contact #2 also works for me now without the glitch in favorites. Wireless tether installed fine as well this time...all in all, it seems I had a bad install and/or wasn't careful enough when setting things up. I'll defer to battery life issues until I ran it for a few days. All in all, everything ok now :)

Just a personal note.. out of the stock and seven different custom roms, Sourcery's battery life exceeded everyone by 30% and more..
