[ROM] The Eagle Has Landed!!!! - Liberty 1.0 1/11/11

Hey, just wondering if anyone could explain the contact system with this rom. I'd like to have my facebook contacts and pictures, but not have to be constantly signed into facebook.

I also can't reinstall the gingerbread keyboard. When I try the phone just reboots. Thanks for the help.

No ideas for this?

Liberty runs pretty good for me, but I do have quite a few small glitches and lag issues often. Also 10% of the time my phone just does not run like it should. Mysterious beast theme installed. Im thinking about wiping data/cache, which i did not do on this flash, and re-flashing liberty. Does anyone else think this will help or is it a waste of time. 90% of the time my phone runs great.

Wiping data/cache is always a good idea.

Also, more info would be very helpful.
Example: Try taking your car to a mechanic, and saying "10% of the time, it just does not run like it should..."
When they're done laughing, the first thing they should do is ask for more info...

WHEN are you getting glitches or lag issues. Can you give an example? What are you doing at the time?

And because it's so vague... I would suggest exactly what you mention doing first anyway...
Go ahead and wipe cache/data, and re-flash liberty.. test it for a few days, then try adding the theme... does the problem come back with just liberty? Does the problem then come back with the theme? etc.

Honestly, for lag/glitchy type issues.. USUALLY it's an app, or something misbehaving... task killer, something that's supposed to ""help"" with CPU/Battery/memory/task management/etc. are often problems there.

If that doesn't help, please let us know.. and include as much detail as you can!!! ;)

Once the keyboard is installed, and you select it as default by long-pressing in a text input field, go to "Input Method", and select the keyboard that you just installed.. it still doesn't work?

Out of curiosity is there any benefit to changing the dalvik vm heap size?

Uhmm, sure!

The "optimal" VM Heap size varies based on the application.

Basically the VM Heap increases the amount of memory allocated to the Dalvik virtual machine. Larger heap sizes may make larger applications run more smoothly, but will increase the amount of memory they take.
Lower may benefit performance for some smaller apps that require less memory, but too low, and performance of larger apps can suffer, or it can even cause stability issues, FC's, etc. of larger apps.

It's not showing up under input method. I don't think it's installing. The keyboard isn't a huge issue, I'm more concerned about the contacts.

You need to go to settings > language and keyboard and check the gingerbread keyboard so that it will show up in the input method listed above.

It's not showing up there either.

Then the download is corrupt. Look for it in /sdcard/liberty/download(s)/
And delete it, then go to toolbox, and try again.

Having a little trouble. I know how to change the boot animation in root explorer, but don't know how to set a custom boot animation on liberty? Do i have to put it in a file for the install/root/SD card to work in the liberty tools. Thanks.

Thanks, that worked!! Now if I can just figure out how to get my contacts and their pictures to show up without having to be logged onto facebook.

I prefer phone contacts to be on my phone, and facebook contacts to be in facebook.. so I can't help you.
I believe there's an app that lots of people have suggested in the past... that makes this work a bit better, but I can't find it.. hopefully someone can suggest it again...

Well thanks for the help anyway. I really just want the contacts in my phone to have pictures for when I text and facebook seemed the easiest way. For some reason when I sign out of FB I lose certain contacts on my phone and their name is no longer associated with that number.

Sephtin's info is pretty spot on here but there may be one other culprit. Have you updated your Liberty Toolbox to the latest version? In the latest version you can enter Liberty Settings and look at your sysctl settings. If you have vfs_cache_pressure = 12 then that is very likely the problem. It would explain why sometimes you have this feeling of "not running like it should." I would guess that the times it isn't running right is after it's been running for 50ish hours without a reboot... If you update to the newest Liberty Toolbox you can change vfs_cache_pressure to my recommended setting of 50 and likely never see this slowdown occur.

Hmm, what are the rest of your sysctl settings? I haven't been brave enough to try these out, but I can use your settings as a jumping point :)

I was pretty sure that Liberty set them to my recommended settings... ?
