[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

It's not in Airplane mode. I even had to turn on WiFi mode yesterday at my house to actually be able to access the internet on it. Other than that, no signal at all anywhere. I've also tried restarting the phone and nothing.

Sounds like you lost your 3G connection, which is a relatively common problem of varying sources. Can you still place/receive phone calls and text messages? Those don't use 3G, so you should still be able to use the services.

I lost my 3G signal at one point on my first Moto Droid to the point that I returned the phone and bought a new one. It had nothing to do with rooting or ROMs. These days, people tend to lose their 3G after specific ROMs are installed or rooting methods.

What method/file did you use to root?

hi, i have the update FRG83G on a unrooted moto droid.
1. does this method still work on this phone and is there an easier method?
2. my only reason for rooting is to have this phone be a wireless hotspot.
thank you.

I cannot place any calls or send any text messages. I used the detailed guide in the very first post of this thread, following the guide as it said and using the files from it as well.

Drucian, I'm not familiar with the root file used in this thread, as I used a GPA ROM instead (search the Bugless forum and you'll see the GPA ROM threads).

So, since I can't really help with your question, I'll just simply say that if you're interested in a Gingerbread ROM, go download the GPA14 ROM from Peter Alfonso and use that as your "update.zip" file instead of the one from this thread.

Make sure to wipe data & cache before flashing it if you're interested in going that route, and also make a backup before-hand.

I would try the sbf again. If that don't work then post your problem in the Rescue Squad section. Just make sure you followed the steps and are not missing any.

This still works because it bypasses the software on the phone and replaces some of it. If it doesn't then I would be very surprised.

Any other method that might work is inferior to this method, but for Wi-Fi tethering purposes they will work; they're really not that much easier, though. Also, if you're planning on using a Droid 1 for a hotspot you need to make sure that your device can connect to an ad-hoc network. Otherwise you're out of luck. Check into that and then return and we'll get you rooted and tethering.

Does anything happen if you dial *228?
"Mobile network not available"
Pull the battery, wait 30 seconds, reinsert it, reboot, see if the problem persists. If so, restore your backup you made either right before or right after you rooted. If you did not make a backup then we'll have to try a ROM or something else to get your stuff working. However, this is beyond the "how to root your Droid" topic of this thread. Please start a new topic in the Rescue Squad section or something. :)

Removing the battery and putting it back in worked... Thanks. Should have tried this before -.-
