Kudos to MotoCache1 for the great work and write up.

I have been having the occasional texting issue and would like to install the update. how do I undo your procedure to install the update? I have read the first and last ten pages of the thread and have not seen how to back out of this.



p.s. I have tried ROM's and feel OK about them. I would rather have just the root privileges for a few programs and tethering.

I followed these intructions to try and root my droid 1 which is on 2.2.2. When I tried to install rsd lite 4.9, I got the following message "error writing to file: msxml4.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory" Any ideas on how to get around this?

Thanks, I just rooted my Motorola Droid for the first time using this guide. I used Ubuntu 10.10 livecd to run sbf_flash to install SPrecovery. I substituted the rooted update.zip linked here with the one provided by the Cyanogenmod wiki. I flashed that with SPrecovery. At that point I was rooted. Then I installed Koush's Rom Manager and flashed Clockwork Recovery to replace SPrecovery. Then I copied CM7 to the sd card, rebooted into recovery mode and flashed it. Now I'm rocking on Android 2.3.

Do you use Astro file manager on your Droid? If so you can find the file and rename it there. Long press>edit>rename then wipe the whole name and type update.zip

You can rename update.zip before you copy it to the sdcard.

thanks for helping me root my droid 1 first off... it connects with my computer perfectly..... now..... any tips on how to get my archos 101 to connect to the wifi tether????? my archos is running "Android 2.1.8 (Android 2.2.1)" ...... i have successful tether from droid 1 to my laptop... but... i want my droid to run my archos!!!!... a co-worker just got his phone (EVO) rooted and he turned on his wifi and the archos connected to it.... wondering why it wont work with my phone??? i tried 2 applications to get it.... "barnacle" and "wifi tether".... both connect to the laptop... but... not the archos!... grrrrrrr... HELP PLEASE!!!

The Droid 1 can only do Ad-Hoc mode, which most mobile devices won't connect to. You'll need to manually edit some files or upgrade your phone.
