thanks for the tut, very easy to follow and worked perfect. I got tired of being lazy and waiting for androot to work again with the second froyo update. I was starting to have withdrawl from being overclocked lol

Just wanted to say thanks for posting this. I got tired of waiting on the one-click apps and downloaded an update.zip for FRG22D that was supposed to be rooted but wasn't. Out of curiosity I decided to flash back to 2.0.1 and apply the OTA update to see what I could do myself. I was super excited to find this article once I realized what your method did and the fact that all my rooting problems are solved forever. Thanks again for the great work and awesome writeup!

I even disabled the extension

Well, your intentions were good, but you've actually not disabled the hiding of the extensions. Look at the file named simply "bootanimation" in your screenshot. It is described as being a ZIP file, but doesn't say ".zip" on the end -- but your "update" file does...
Hit my instructions to re-enable file extensions again and let me know if I messed 'em up. I double checked them, but you never know.
Even though I am quite handy w/ Linux, I am still quite new to the Droid. I rooted my Droid 1 back in June when I first got it. Sure wish I had seen this guide then. After having had a stock Droid for about two week, I won't go back to a stock ROM. Thank you for this guide, and for the explanation of the whole procedure. I have had several requests from friends, colleagues and Droid converts to assist them with rooting their Droids, and your guide goes a long way to reduce the fear of bricking someone else's phone.
Of course have to tell me what the resolution was -- PM if you prefer. That way the next person that comes along with a "installation aborted" and can't figure it out on their own -- I know better what's probably going on.
