[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

I have two questions

1. The PC system I will be using has XP pro on it , but the USB interface is 1.1 vice 2.0, will this have an effect when using RSD Lite?

2. What is the approximate amount of time between selecting "start" on RSD Lite and the reboot of the driod. Also what is the approximate of this after the droid reboots to "PASS" on RSD Lite?

is at possible to please get a answer to this question

Check my reply #547 in this post.

Thanks you

Just installed DropBox on the laptop & phone from your sig link
Thanks for all you do for us
Thanks (both to you and to others who've signed up so far)! Did you get your "extra" 250MB on your account? You should have 2.25 GB instead of the usual 2GB.

Buckmarble answered your first question, and I'll answer the second, but my answer is useless: "it depends". On my machine, if I've booted recently and all my USB ports are 100% happy, etc., from the time I click "Start" to the time the Droid boots is like 10 seconds, and after catching the reboot I'm back in and sitting at "PASS" after about a total elapsed of 15 seconds. If my computer has been up for a good while and the USB ports are reacting slowly to insertions and removals, it could be a couple/few minutes (or more) from pressing Start until I'm at "PASS".

First, hopefully the file you loaded was FRG22D, not FRG22B.

Yep typo

After the root steps and the following boot loop, I installed the latest FRG22B stock rooted ROM from P3Droid. Both of the ROMs I have used on this phone were from stock OTA source, stock kernels, with root added. I've had the boot loop issue on my phone before, but a ROM reinstall fixed it, I guess this phone was too far gone for that.

Moto - When I install the sbf (Steps 1-13), after it installs SPRecovery, it should leave the phone rooted since I am already, correct? I assume that from that point I can do a nandroid backup if I so desire before doing anything else.

Also, my su is v2.3.2.1 (su v2.3-ef, Database version 5). Do I need an updated version of it, or is this one adequate?

Edit: Never mind the su question; I looked at your signature link again and downloaded it. Duh...

I want to add my Thanks Moto for a great set of instructions. Like others, I had cold feet. Now, I would never want another Droid without root access, and you made it so easy.

I do have one question that I can not see has come up in the string. FGR22D has a bug in it's email.apk that requires you to use a four digit pin for Corporate Exchange Accounts even if the Exchange server does not enforce that option in their policy. It is quit annoying to have to put a pin in every time you swipe the screen (especially when it's not required). FGR01B did not have the problem.

How do you get back to FGR01B while keeping root, if I followed your procedure to gain root access.

Thanks,
Greise

Since you're familiar with Motocache's instructions, and you likely already have sprecovery flashed, I think your best bet will be to download the full system OTA file for FRG01B (here - source: this thread), flash it through sprecovery as update.zip, then flash Motocache's root .zip file as update.zip. Basically, go through the same process to root as you did with FRG22D, but this time after you have FRG01B installed. Since you're going back a step with regard to OS, it might not hurt to wipe before you do it, as well.

Once you've got it up and running, you'll likely get the notification for FRG22D. Just choose to reboot and install it, and SPRecovery will block the install. Theoretically, you shouldn't receive the notification again.

ok umm i followed the directions on how to root my droid now forsome reason i turn it on an it just goes to my homescreesns but my RED led light comes on an it says i have no battery life an no service.

Exactly what I would have said.

Correct.

Sounds like you flashed the ESE81_SPRecovery.sbf to me, not mine. Any chance that's the case?

No i actually think i caught my mistake i think the update.zip file was opened or somthing. when i wnt to my comp the file itself was 888kb an i thought that was a little small but i reflashed to 2.0.1 cuz it wouldnt read my SD card so i might try again a little later.

The symptom you're describing usually happens when a 2.2 phone gets a 2.0.1 kernel. Generally getting a 2.2 kernel back on should fix it -- as I think does a factory reset. The Rescue Squad guys deal with that a lot. If there's nothing special you'd worry about losing you could just flash on the FRG22D SBF and then root from there.
