[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

Did you see this in the OP?

6. I'm using Windows 7 and my phone shows up, and I can select the SBF file, but the "Start" button is grayed out.
This is a bizarre issue that is specific to Windows 7. I can't reproduce it here, but it has come up enough that it is a legit thing. Some folks have success with certain things while for others those things don't fix it, but something else does. If you try each of the items below, one should work for you.

  1. Try checking the "open as read only" box when you are selecting the SBF file.
  2. Make sure you installed the RSD Lite 4.6 that is linked to in "things you're going to need". If you're using a newer version (like 4.7) or if you're using 4.6 that you got from someplace else, and it's working, fine, but if it's not working, uninstall it and install that exact one that I've linked to. Poster "fetchman" reported in post #255 that he had this exact problem, and while the tricks in the next items below would work around it, removing RSD Lite and reinstalling the one I've linked here actually fixed it. That said, another poster says he did replace it with the exact version linked to and it still didn't fix it.
  3. Move the SBF file to the root of your C: drive (i.e. C:\). See if RSD Lite will enable the Start button after choosing the file when it resides here.
  4. Rename the SBF file to just "MC1.SBF".
  5. If none of those worked you can try the suggestion in post #275.
  6. If that didn't work you can try the suggestion in post #317 - Failed Flashing process. (0x7100).

So I just rooted my phone (quit easily thank you!) Now how do I bragg to an iPhone user that what I just did makes my phone so much better? I want to try wifi tethering and to overclock.. not sure what else to do?

See the links in my signature for more information. There should be an update to it soon -- been working on something about nandroid backups. :)

So I'm going to move from BB .4 to stock but rooted Odexed FRG22D. I have the full 'master' FRG22D OTA that I grabbed from the cache. Will SPRecovery block this master update?

I've been interested in rooting my droid, and I have the frg22d update from verizon, but my big concern is if i do this method listed here, will i have to re-setup my phone with verizon, google, and have to put back in all my contacts info, apps, and other settings? or will this root what i have and keep my phone as is, but with root access?

If you're already running FRG22D and simply want to root it, you will not lose anything. Gaining root doesn't erase anything or make you re-setup your phone. You'll get root and the phone will boot normally.

i finally did it yay

YAY! dancedroiddancedroid

The master OTA FRG22D update will overwrite pretty much anything, including BB, leaving you with a stock Odexed 22D install. Then just root normally and you'll have a rooted Odexed 22D install.

Well I was just going to answer my own question when you posted. I backed up everything and even formatted the sd card. Switched from Clockwork to SPRecovery and booted into recovery. Made a nandroid, wiped cache/data/factory reset, and installed FRG22D. Booted up into a clean install and all free/paid apps are now downloading. Once this is done I'll go root it. I'm a happy camper.

is at possible to please get a answer to this question

Check my reply #547 in this post.
Buckmarble answered your first question, and I'll answer the second, but my answer is useless: "it depends". On my machine, if I've booted recently and all my USB ports are 100% happy, etc., from the time I click "Start" to the time the Droid boots is like 10 seconds, and after catching the reboot I'm back in and sitting at "PASS" after about a total elapsed of 15 seconds. If my computer has been up for a good while and the USB ports are reacting slowly to insertions and removals, it could be a couple/few minutes (or more) from pressing Start until I'm at "PASS".

After making all the necessary preps, was able to root my droid in under 5 minutes. Well done and thanks

You need to copy this file to the root of your phone's SD card and then rename it to update.zip.
