[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

Yes. Somehow you used the wrong SBF and you got a 2.1 kernel on your 2.2 installation. You have two choices -- flash a 2.2 kernel or flash whatever ROM you wanted to put on your phone, complete with wipes and everything.

To save time, here's a kernel for you to flash. Update.zip install, just like the rooting update.zip you flashed.

FYI, that wasn't a ROM you flashed, simply the root files and fix for the bootloader.

http://www.p3designs.info/kernels/125-800-v32kernel.zip Rename update.zip, place on the root of your SD card, and flash in SPRecovery.

Thank you! Youve been very kind to a noob I just learned about rooting literally yesterday when a friend showed me what he could do with his droid. I bought easy root and still have no idea what im doing Ill start reading more. I just have two more question where can I look for roms for my droid and when I start my droid it says "Process system is not responding" Is that normal? Also thanks again.

+1!

DroidForums junkie!!

Easy root? Return it. I now see how your droid 1 got messed up.

This came from my brain by way of my finger and my phone. Don't ask where any of them have been. Especially the brain.

Tomorrow you move into the advanced class, as dictated by the use of easy root. Lesson the first, choosing and flashing a rom.

Mhumbach: With the cord getting unpluged mid flash, your whole system got corrupted. Flashing MC1's .sbf file here will not fix it as it is not a complete .sbf file, just one where everything was pulled out of it and just a custom recovery partition added back in. I don't know why the others didn't catch this.

What you need to do now is flash a complete .sbf file, then you can proceed with this guide to root your phone. Here is one guide to use:

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/73579-using-rsd-lite-flash-sbf-file-correctly.html

Or here is another guide with all the needed files including the latest leaked FRG22D .sbf flash file:

Restoring your phone when all else fails-LAST RESORT AND VERY RARE!!!

If you just want the FRG22D .sbf file, it's in my 'droid files' link below. The file name starts with 'VZW_A855_FRG22D'.

Make sure you get your battery fully charged before you start.

good luck

Thank you all im in the process of downloading the full .sbf file. Im so glad my phones not bricked at least dancedroid I can tell I have much more reading to do, deciding on a rom to chose and so forth

Teddy, I was going to get Mhumbach to flash MC's SBF again and then flash the ROM of choice to save time. :)

Didn't miss anything, just trying to skip a step if possible.

Teddy's links are the way to go for the most thorough job. Once you get up and running again (DON'T let that cable get yanked again!) try again. Good luck!

I understand, however from what I know, there is no skipping a step when the cord gets pulled while flashing a .sbf file as there could be other things left undone/damaged that just flashing a rom will not address. The ONLY thing that can attempt to fix it is flashing a full .sbf file.

Thank you my phone works perfectly now that I put the .sbf file you suggested.<snip>

And you may be right. It's been a while since someone had an OOPS! of that magnitude. I do remember trying to do that with someone else, but I don't remember if it worked or not without the full SBF.

And it sounds like we got another saved phone, so good job. :)

My D1 is rooted using this method, but I'm still otherwise stock. I got notice for the OTA update tonight, but of course SPRecovery blocked it. Is the new Gmail interface diff than what was available in the Market a few months ago? If so, it's the only part of the OTA I'd be interested in. Is this update available on Google's servers?

Terminal commands to uninstall Gmail as it exists on your phone so you can install either a leak or the Gmail as it is on the Market are available. Of course, this update may not even break root. I don't know.

I installed the Gmail update from the Market (in Sept I think it was) and it has Priority Inbox support. Just wondered if that was what is in the OTA or if it's a newer version.
