[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

Backups backup everything but your baseband. When your recovery is backing up, (SP) will actually say system and data.

I do need help... I don't know how to make a backup at all... is there one best way I should do it... or a few different ways...
No problem. Just go into recovery like you did when you installed the zip. X+Power, and select backup/restore and then select advanced nandroid backup. This allows you to name the backup rather than it naming it for you with the normal nandroid backup. Select the astrics, name the backup, and select perform backup. It will do it's thing and will eventually say done. Then press power and reboot. It will be inside the nandroid folder on your SD card.

Done. Thank you very very much.

Now, what does this backup provide? Is it essentially a complete snapshot of my entire o.s. as it is right now? Or is it something else?

It is a snapshot of your phone as it is right now. If you get into trouble, in recovery wipe data and cache and restore this backup and you're right back here.

Sent from somewhere...

Yeah, no problem. And yes, that's basically what it is. It restores everything exactly how it was before. Sometimes you run into a ROM or kernel that doesn't work with your Droid too well and you'll need to restore the backup. It's pretty quick and easy to get to and keeps you from having to rename the other file you switched from just to flash it again and in some instances, that isn't an option.

Huh...I wasn't aware that Jrummy's OC app worked for the D1! Learn something new everyday!

Ok, yes im a noob, but i have been reading this carefully. im in SPRecovery mode and i click install /sdcard/update.zip AFTER yes clicking allow update.zip installation and it says "E: cant open /sdcard/update.zip (nosuch file or directory) Installation aborted....Im sorry if this has been asked already, and i cant find the answer in all these pages, i apologize a head of time...what do i do now??

Sounds like a bad dl'd. The file IS on the root (not folder) of your SD card and renamed "update.zip" right?

Haha this reminds of when I got my replacement the other day and I rooted it real quick and I had forgotten to flash the zip so my phone wasn't quite rooted yet and I was going crazy thinking I wasn't going to be able to root it.
