[HACKS] Root Droid 1 - regardless of OS version

Yes it will.

Because your phone has been selected by vzw to upgrade to 2.2.2 (latest version).

Solution is install a ROM at 2.2.2 or has the ota block installed.

If that is gingerbread ROM its not ready for everyday use in my opinion. Have to overclock to make it useable and the battery life is terrible compared to froyo. Just my opinion of course.

You can flash the ROM by renaming that file update.zip and rebooting into recovery (not dos mode lol) and allow update.zip and apply update.zip.

So I was very impatient last night & without any further instructions took shots in the dark. So I was rooted & had no idea how to put a rom on like peters gingerbread.

So check it I just said f it. Downloaded that gpa14 zip file or whatever to my computer mounted my phone and dropped on the root of my phone (with my original update.zip)

I then downloaded clockworkrecovery & installed I guess. Because I then unmounted powered down then booted into x button mode dos recovery thingy & clockwork was now my new dos mode or recovery....but it had pretty much the same options as pdrecovery (? Can't remember the name)

So I wipe format then wipe cache and allowed for installed then installed. But I just installed that gpa14 file (evidently didn't rename it) instead of update.zip (the original one I had from rooting) & it all work.

This phone is now dope again smooth great battery. But my phone doesn't work in call...of all things haha so been gettin text & calls but when I connect can't hear anything. Was that due to me puttin this rom on incorrectly?

& if I want to get to stock root do I just flash cache & format again & install that original update.zip file again?

& that new 2.2.2 what should I do about that?

The original update.zip is just root. Not a ROM. If you want a stock ROM look in GimpSource or MetiCkMod sections on this forum.

Rooted, now what?

This has probably been answered elsewhere in this post, however, I simply could not force myself to read through 130 something odd pages of post and replies and thanks yous. (That mentioned, Thank you so much for such a wonderful description). Also, if this is answered in some other post please feel free to ling me there. :) That said, now that I have rooted my Droid, what should I do now? I keep reading things about nandroid, backups, flashing, and the like and can't really keep up with all the lingo and everything. Thanks in advance!

GIG 'EM AGGIES!

Reboot into recovery, go to the backup/restore menu, and make a simple nandroid backup. You can now futz with your device as you see fit and you can always bring it back to this point in time by restoring that backup.

Check link 2 in my signature for help backing up and flashing ROMs.

I rooted FRG22D using the motocache instructions here about a month ago. Now just received the notification from verizon about FRG83G update.

Do I need to go back to stock FRG22D, apply the FRG83G update, then re-root? Is there a rooted FRG83G image for the motocache method?

Just flash a stock rooted Frg83g ROM...no need to re-root.

Gimp project has a stock rooted as well as MetiCkOne.

Thanks. Do you have a link to a stock rooted FRG83G for the Droid 1? I'm not sure what's different with Gimp and MetiCkOne variants from this thread's MotoCache rom. I see there are some roms at Peter Alfonso... I'm guessing that the one I need is the Stock System Files (Rooted ROMs) - FRG83G (Odexed) or (DeOdexed)?

It would be nice to update this post with a newer MotoCache rooted version of FRG83G.

MotoCache's root doesn't care what OS version you are on...No need to update.

That's why it says regardless of OS version...

Edit: The update.zip you are flashing isn't a ROM. It is only the things necessary to make the stock ROM you are on, rooted.

If you want to flash an ROM, you just need to find a stock one. Peter has one, MetiCkOne has one and Gimp Project has one.

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/metickone/104030-rooted-stock-odexed-deodexed-frg83d.html This one is not FRG83G, its FRG83D.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/pr...77-rom-frg83g-gimpm0d-modded-stock-avail.html FRG83G Stock is the second link. This is based off of PA's stock.

Deodexed is theme ready.
Odexed is stock signed files, so no theming.
