Root on Incredible 2

Because my compass is still not working and I also don't have the NY Times bookmark showing up, I wonder if I should re-install Gingersense and this time wipe the data and cache since last time I did not. Do you think I should? If I do should I reinstall the baseband update?

*Edit: Wiping data may not me necessary for some Roms, sorry. Please see the thread on specific rom before installing.

Wiping data and cache in recovery is usually good practice before installing roms. When I was putting roms on my droid, nook or fascinate I would always wipe data, cache and dalvick cache first. But make sure you have a backup or a rom file on your sdcard before you do this because, if something goes wrong after data wipe, you for the most part have a device with nothing on it. But like I said I haven't messed with root on Inc2 yet, but the rules usually apply for all android devices. If a rom is acting buggy and you didn't wiped data and cache first, that may be the problem.

why aren't you rooted? with all your info and how you talk about it?
just curious!
NOW you tell me that! Recommendations???

If you are on Gingersense Rom, then your root is fine. You should be free to install any rom you want via recovery, make backups of system, remove bloat, etc. You will only loose root if you take the stock Verizon Over The Air update for Gingerbread.

I didn't root my phone because I updated to 2.3, so I can't. I'm just going to wait until a gingerbread one is released.

Dude, if you want to unroot that's up to you. I can't do that on mine because I already installed the update. And there isn't a way to go back to Froyo.

what about my market not working?
who is who talking to?
I AM SOOOO confused!!!!

I am not sure why the market isn't working. Are you guys running this Gingersense? [ROM] RMK Ginger Sense r1: *Official* 2.18.605.4 (Rooted/Deodexed/Debloat) [7/11/11] - xda-developers I wish I could help more, but I am just going off my knowledge of the android system and previous rooting experience. If you are having rom specific problems I would post in the xda thread or in the inc2 hacking section here. But I will help when I can but if I am not running the rom myself I do not know of it's specific issues. I plan on staying unrooted for a while because I like this device as stock so far.

*Edit: I guess some people are not wiping data before installing rom, so I am not sure if that is necessary or not, sorry

I am not sure how to return to stock unrooted. I don't see a method yet, but I will keep on looking. If you have Clockwork Recovery installed it will probably block the OTA update from Verizon.

There is an RUU for stock unrooted Froyo floating around. The link to it is on XDA, and I have read of a user having success with it.

Don't flash a Ruu as if right now, it may give you issues, not sure. Someone needs to make a stock unrooted image for one to flash to return to stock. Hopefully someone over at xda answers me.
