Rooted d1 vs stock d2

Man this thread is great. I would give the wife your d1. Put a pretty pink theme on it and throw it in a nice case. If she wont take full adavantage of the hardware then what's the point of giving her the d2 and your son I would let him root but tell him to give you 90$ for the insurance replacement first just incase he bricks it.

I like this idea. If I do swap me to a d2. Do I need to unroot? Or can they do this easily at the store?

And what about all my apps? And the thought of re-rooting! Ugh! But ill do it if need be. Is there a way to make sure I get all my apps and things I downloaded

You realize if you get the get one free on the "dummy" number, you're going to be paying $9.99 for that line, that comes out to $120 per year (before taxes). And, make sure after you activate the D2 on that dummy line you put on a non-smart phone and block everything from text messaging to national access blocks to prevent any data charges. I'm not so sure this was fully explained to you at the store. The sales rep is thinking commission at your expense.

He said he would waive one of the 9.99 charges so it would be free. But cancel the number within two years

If you cancel the number within your contract period, you'll be subject to the ETF.

Early termination fee, which for a Droid 2, is now $350.

The spare used to be a Storm2 (ex gf). Its now a LG flip. You shouldn't need to unroot though. If unsure, I'd add the line in the store then do the ESN change on your My Verizon.
