Realy bad question I know, but how do I back up the sd card onto the computer. Is there a particular way I need to do this. I appologize for some simple questions.

Darryl

Mount the SD card to the computer and drag all the files/folders to a folder named "DO NOT LOSE THIS" or somesuch. :)

Wait for them to copy over. Once they're copied over they're backed up.

Not a dumb question; in order to use the good backup apps you need to be rooted, so it's natural to not make the transition back to a Windows/Macintosh environment thought process till you're more used to it. :)

Ok, I did everything you described, but the phone will not boot into recovery. It takes a very long time and then it just boots as normal.

I think I figures it out. I reflashed the SPRecovery. It's letting me boot into recovery, I just don't know yet what rom and such I'm going to see. I'll know in a few minutes.

I'm back to where I was before Tried to install the ROM. So maybe it was the sd card, but somehow I didn't have some or all of the SPRecovery installed. Now I have to see if I want to try all this again I have taken the Rom Manager with clockworkmod off my phone, but since this last boot into recovery and restore it put it back on, so should I make a new storing point now that it's not on there, or keep it this way to be safe? Do you have to have any kind of rom manager to have a different then stock rom?

Darryl

You could keep the backup if you want to be safe. I uninstalled ROM Manager some time ago and used to just boot into recovery the manual way (power + X) but my recent ROMs have all had "Reboot to recovery" in the power menu so that is MUCH better! I dl'd ALL of my ROMs over 3G and have never once had an issue (2-4 bars at my house). ROM Manager isn't required to flash anything though.

DroidForums junkie!!

Do you have to have any kind of app to manage your roms? Is it possible to have more then one Rom flashed on your phone and just switch them out when You feel like it? If you can how do you do it? I need to make sure I know how to flash a rom with SPR.

The reason for not booting into recovery earlier is a pretty usual occurrence. Happened to me the first time. Just a reflash and it's fixed. As far as having multiple ROMs. The only way I know of going about this is if you have them on your SD card and you rename it and then flash in recovery. Can prove to take up some space though

So most people probably just use one and then flash a new and get rid of the old? It's just when your trying them out since there are so many to see which one you like it could get pretty crazy flashing and then deleting all the time.

Yes. I usually keep the current one on there though and if I flash a new ROM, I still keep that one saved. Reason being, on my other Droid(before my replacement) I never had a single backup restore. I don't know why but it would just sit at the restore about half way through and never finish. Haven't had this problem with this one but I still keep it just in case. And yeah, it gets frustrating having to do that process over and over when you're testing them out. I'm sticking with MIUI right now. Great ROM.

Is this the best/easiest way to flash a ROM?

Download the rom to your computer
Rename to "update.zip" Make sure there is only one ".zip" extension
Mount your phone to your computer
Drag and drop the update.zip file to the root of your SD card (easiest way just drag to the icon that represents your SD card)
Unmount your phone
boot into recovery (press and hold X and power)
Use the volume button to move up and down and the camera key to process
select backup/restore
select bakup
select advanced nandroid backup
select backup name open slider and enter a neme when finished press the return key and close slider and press camera key

when the backup is finished
select factory reset
wipe data and cache 3 times
select install
select install depractiated
when the install completes press power until you see reboot press camer key

That's pretty much the only way.
You can do it straight from your phone too by using your browser but it's the same process. You're just not using the computer.
And you don't have to use the volume/camera key for selection but it's advised. I personally use the d-pad because enter key and arrow keys are basically touching.
And wiping data and cache 3 times isn't really necessary but some people do it. There isn't anything wrong with it but once you've wiped once you're wiping nothing the 2nd and 3rd time. People have claimed it's helped solve issues. Who knows. Just a matter of preference I suppose
