I would donate cpu cycles if need be. my machine sits mostly idle anyways. I know that we would need a huge cluster to even make a dent if it is RSA 2048...

What does that mean?

I am willing to allow my machine to be used in a cluster (much as folding@home does... or seti for that matter) in order to help people crack the encryption.

I have a machine thats also just connected to the internet and rarely used. How can I partake in helping out?
you guys say moto doesnt care about locking the phone down, that maybe true but look at the nexus one. it came pretty much unlocked. so to compare that would mean htc doesnt care about rooting. then look at the incredible and how long its taken to get root. i guess my point is that its not the phone developers that care. its vzw and they want their phones locked down. vzw is apple in the carrier world. they want to have control over everything it will get hacked if man made it man can cracked but it will not be as quick as the droid nor be as full a root. ie meaning hboot unlock. sorry to say but all x users including myself will be waiting awhile.
I think once the Samsung Galaxy phone comes to Verizon you will know if Verizon or the manufacturer is locking the phones down, Samsung has left the bootloader unlocked on the Galaxy line worldwide so far.
New Guy here.... I am gonna get the phone on the 15th
can someone please link or tell me what all this rooting does nd what is it?
also "Roms" sorry im a Blackberry and a Car wiz but ive never
had a droid phone>>> sorry 4 being a Newb
Its the manufacturer that locks down these phones like this not the carrier. Verizon may want their phones locked down but ultimately its on the manufacturer. Motorola locked down this phone they don't want you to root your phone. Now that you know who does this get mad at the right person

So true, Motorola was quoted as saying (I am paraphrasing) phones like the Droid are the exception to there rule and that they lock there boot loaders and have been doing this for years

All I can say to that is don't buy Motorola and go with HTC or Samsung so long as the device can be rooted and has an unencrypted boot loader. Vote with your wallet.
