rubiX Focused 1.6

lol now only if I knew how to code :p

one day.....one day.....

could the custom even be as simply as the device recognizing it is no longer on the home page?

No clue. :S
Not sure how one would pull that off... heh

think drod could piece somethin together/

Fair question. Hate to put a damper on it.. here's what I know...
I'll be honest, and hope I don't rub anyone the wrong way here...

Putting a ROM together, is a matter of getting all the pieces of the puzzle together, and making them fit. These pieces for pretty much every ROM, are all out there already, and just need to be (re)compiled and put together. What your asking for is not to take existing code and try to make it work.. you're asking to actually have one of the pieces fabricated from scratch. While many of the devs on this site could probably pull that off... IF we had days or weeks of nothing better to do than to write code, test, debug, etc.

But, please understand what you're asking for...

I barely have time to keep up a silly bar-mod that only requires changing 2 or 3 lines of code, and modifying a few images, and Drod has work, school, a life, and currently 3 versions of ROMs to work on, plus existing bugs, etc.

Short version... if you want something like this, you'll need to find a dev who is interested in picking up the project, and/or pay someone to do it... It's certainly NOT an easy task, and it isn't something that could be done overnight...

But feel free to send him a PM or email and ask... *shrug*

Is anybody else having problems with accessing their phone's SD cards via USB? I usually can't get my phone to mount properly on my computer. I got it to work for a few seconds earlier, and started copying a file. Midway through the copying, the file stopped and the SD Card unmounted itself, and my phone said "preparing SD card". Anybody have a solution? (This didn't happen to me on rubix 1.0)

Sorry if I'm short, I ask the same questions every time..

--Latest drivers from Moto? (4.7.1 I believe)?
--Theme or restore from backup?

First thing to try, reinstall Focused again, don't wipe data/cache. IF that fixes it, then either an app, theme, or restore hosed you.

It's not the cable, I've tested it on multiple. Other people have seemed to have similar problems, if you look back in the thread. Thanks though

Here's what worked for me...

Typed "moto" into my search button (Windows 7 start menu) and it brings up Motorola Driver Installer.exe. Run it. Clean and re-install. Plug in your phone. Cycle through all the different usb options (i.e. charge only, media sync, etc). That fixed my USB woes except for MTB.

Of course it seems these phones are finicky- I had to sbf and then reload rubiX1.6 and did not get the USB problem.

In the words of Sephtin "**shrug**".

good luck.

I followed a similar set of steps to what MBJR posted several pages ago to try to get my battery life to improve and I have now gone from 12-14 hours to 24+ with stock voltage/cpu speeds! As an added bonus my Google Translate app quit locking up too!

I think that a majority of my problems were probably due to stuff I downloaded while on previous Rubix and stock roms but was no longer needed and was likely stepping all over itself. I accordingly reloaded all my apps manually and reconfigured them without using backups (Titanium or Google) to make sure this didn't happen again as a result of Google putting exactly the mess I had back before back on automatically and breaking me again. If you are having battery problems/weird application behaviour you might try just that part by itself instead of the fully paranoid steps I took

Here is the full list of steps that I did (with credit to MBJR) just in case it helps someone else:

1. SBF
2. Re-root
3. Reboot Recovery and performed Factory Reset
4. Mounted System (Mounts and Storage option)
5. Formatted System
6. Formatted Data
7. Formatted Cache
8. Wiped Davlik Cache (Advanced Menu)
9. Reset Battery Stats (Advanced Menu)
10. Installed Rom
11. Factory Reset (yes again)
12. After first boot skipped the Google Account step
13. Settings/Privacy Menu - made sure Backup option was turned off
14. Added Google account under settings/accounts
15. MANUALLY re-downloaded all apps that I wanted
16. MANUALLY reconfigured Settings for the various apps and the phone itself

A Lot of steps but worked out quite well for me - YMMV

Trying this now for s's and g's. God, is there anything more nerve-wracking than flashing an .sbf on a $500 phone?

Lol. You'll get used to it and it'll be nothing. Ive had my phones soooo bootlooped I figured they were completely bricked and eventually get them running again, pulse never rises.

I have a similar issue, using a Mac. I plug in the phone and nothing happens - no charge, no mounting to the computer. When I plug in the USB, the phone screen does wake, but it doesn't do anything besides that.

When I plug it into the wall, it charges fine.

When I boot into Bootloader and plug it into the USB, telling it to "mound sdcard" it works fine. I've also tried a different USB cable, as well as different USB ports, all with the same result.

I've only noticed this issue with this particular ROM. I've only tried the stock install and the ApeX ROM, but both handle the USB fine.

I just don't understand what you people are doing to your phones. I'm new to Android and have just read around on here and experimented to figure things out and I've never had any of these issues with aspects of my phone not working. I'm not even particularly careful or anything. I went from Focused 1.0 as my first ROM to an upgrade without wiping to 1.6, flashed several themes to try, also without ever wiping, played around manually to overclock and undervolt even when the ROM's voltages didn't work with my phone (still on original 1.6 pre-stock voltages restored) and now I've even taken my theme to even more custom by replacing everything from the stock app icons to each notification icon and never encountered a single game breaker like usb not working or what have you.

Now I'm not saying all this to try and brag or anything. I'm still very new to all this and there is a lot I don't know. I'm simply trying to point out that it can't simply be the ROM. You guys have to be screwing around with things somewhere... Anyways, I'm very proud of the progress I've made customizing my phone, so here's a screenshot of my latest changes with all new icons :)

So, stupid question.. if installing apex fixes it.. does installing a clean Focused?

I'm not sure. I'll have to try it. My path was New/Stock > Root > ApeX > TranQ > Apex > Rubik. Each time I installed a ROM I did clear the cache/data.

Well my battery was draining quickly... tried the advanced clear bat stat. p--- didnt work...

So I finally sucked it up and went through "full sbf, root, deodex, load rom, manually load all apps..."

After bricking it and a few boot loops after the SBF, i got it all going... Charging battery now, will use tomorrow as a true test to see the battery's life span...

Before it went to 60% in 45 minutes. eeeeek.

You, Sir (assuming you are a "sir") clearly have balls that swing further and lower than mine. I break a sweat whenever I flash a theme!

I just rooted yesterday (finally dancedroid) looking at all of the roms available this is the one that I want to try out first, with the black juice theme. I don't really know the first thing about flashing a rom though..

- I'm not deodexed, I don't really understand how to do it.. is it necessary for this rom?

- The two programs that I need are the Bootstrap and Clockwork Recovery?

I understand that the most important thing to do is create a backup and it seems as easy as dragging the .zip over onto the sdcard then clearing the data/cache and then installing the .zip

I just want to make sure I have the correct programs before I try anything like this lmao.. I had a few heart attacks during the rooting process

Oh and a quick question.. since this removes the blur programs and my backup is going to have them if I ever restore to the backup will I have to manually put the blur programs back on? Or does that not matter

Welcome! I'm sure you'll enjoy using rubiX Focused -- it's a great ROM!

1 - You don't have to deodex to install a ROM -- most ROMs (and definitely rubiX Focused) are deodexed.

2 - The program you need is Droid X Recovery Bootstrap.

To install the ROM, follow the instructions below (edited form the first post), and you should be in good shape. Definitely let us know if you run into any hitches, or have any trouble, there are lots of helpful, smart people in this forum!

- Download the ROM -- http://bit.ly/d8HMa3

- Use a file explorer on your Droid X to move the rom .zip file from wherever it is saved ("download" if you use the default browser) to the root of your SDCard.

- Open Droid X Recovery Bootstrap.

- Press "Bootstrap Recovery" and press "Yes" to grant Superuser permissions (and make sure to check the button to save this).

- Press "Reboot Recovery"

- The phone will boot up into a new DOS like recovery mode with green text and a black background. Use the volume keys on your phone to navigate up and down, and use the camera key to select menu items.

- Scroll down to backup/restore and make a backup of your current ROM

- When the backup completes (this can take some time), scroll to "Install .Zip from SDCard."

- Then select "Choose Zip From SD Card".

- Scroll to the .zip file of the rubiX ROM you saved to your SDCard.

- Select Yes.

- Hold your breath.

- Wait for everything to run.

- Press Reboot.

- Enjoy the super cool rubiX boot logo!

I hope I've been somewhat clear. I'm exhausted from being up all night flashing the .sbf on my phone to have a truly clean start on this ROM (see my post a few posts back).

Happy trails!

I'll put the final nail in this coffin then.

Right now the only way to effect things on the notification bar are through making changes to the framework. Each change to the framework requires a reboot.

While it's still "technically" possible, you would have to recode the area that is responsible for actually drawing that framework (ie, the kernel). Since we can't run custom kernels on the X, this will not be possible.

Coding an app or script to look for home screen or orientation changes and then apply a change to the framework will not work.
