Rumor: Droid 1, Droid Incredible, and Droid X to receive 2.2 update, starting on 8/6

Were you here for the fiasco that was the 2.1 update?

For 2 months there was a rumor every two weeks regarding the release date and people would get their panties in a bunch every time.

I was laughing, because obviously, they must be joking...

Here we go again!

2.2 Update for the Moto Droid

I keep hearing about the 2.2 froyo for the Android. How exactly do I get the update for my Droid? Is it already available? I'm new to the Droid world and still figuring things out. i believe I'm running 2.1 right now. When will I be able to upgrade?

Any phone that was ony rooted, will still receive it, whether or not you can RUN it will be another story.

You didn't get it yet? We all have it. There should be a notification on your screen. If not, just keep hitting "Check for updates" until sometime in August.

Other than an official OTA (over the air) update from Verizon, you can have 2.2 on your Droid if you root it and customize it to run a ported version of Froyo with aftermarket ROMs, kernels, themes etc.

I don't know if this rumor is correct. And I've already stated in several threads that the date for the first to roll out for Droid is 8/7. Then it's to be followed by the X and the last was the Incredible.

I would say that the "source" I got this from was pretty good, but I haven't heard anything in a while. I'll double check it.

But does FroYo come with free sprinkles?

But really it hasn't been released yet supposidly it is now August 6 or 8 but when it is pushed out it will be pushed out in stages so you most likely wont get it the first day of release. But when you do get it a notification will show up on your phone all you do is hit okay and it will install.

Highly unlikely seeing how Motorola,google,Verizon and adobe all said the nexus one gets it first followed by the Droid by Motorola getting it second.

Once someone gets and shares the update it can be manually loaded if you haven't already received it.

Ok, I don't chime in often, but I feel the need to do so this time. Personally, I'm one of those "nervous" folk out there who is worried about rooting my phone and anxiously awaiting the froyo update for my MD.

I say just wait and give it time. If it happens when the rumors state, GREAT! If it doesn't, it will eventually. Trust me, I'm dying to have the ability to load apps onto my memory card and such. However, we have to have patience. We're lucky we're still able to get another update, especially since our MD is slated for EOL.
