Rumor: Droid 1, Droid Incredible, and Droid X to receive 2.2 update, starting on 8/6

Every time I come to this forum I get sucked into reading another one of these "Froyo Release date" threads.
When Will I learn. :huh:

You'd think as a Linux user I would know better to even read these type of threads.
I need Froyo to be released simply so I can stop falling for the hype.

its because Froyo is android phone geek "crack". and Gingerbread is heroin

What routes for tethering do you mean? The downloadable root-only tethers? Yes. PDANet/EasyTether? Yes. The pay-Verizon-more-filthy-lucre-"share internet connection" via the settings menu? That's a 2.2 option.

To someone more knowledgeable than me: With the Droid and the X both getting froyo at the same time, what is the possibility/likelihood that somehow they are gonna package froyo with a UI and when I update my Droid I'll end up with a DroidX type of motoblur on my droid? I don't want that.

From seeing all the ROMS built lately I highly doubt it has something like Motoblur for the X. But I'm just assuming as I am not rooted.

Considering the cost in time, resources, and cold, hard cash involved in creating a UI for a piece of equipment released last year that reached its EOL status for both the manufacturer and the carrier, the new hardware being developed, etc., I'd say not.

But that's just an opinion.

None unless you port it over. the Droid wiill get vanilla Android, the Di will get Froyo with Sense on it, the Dx will get it with blur on it (and next month is doubtful now).......

I can't say I'm not enjoying the 'I told you so' from way back in May. I said June, no way; July unlikely, August possible; by Sept. for sure. Having said that, I got a real aching in the loins for FroYo just like everyone else.

[Breaking] AndroidCentral is reporting that the 2.2 update for the Droid 1 is confirmed for "this week". So 8/6 seems about right, considering Verizon tends to upgrade phones on Thursdays...

No word yet on 2.2 updates for the Incredible and Droid X.
