Seidio Case

OK, thanks for that -- got it now. You said earlier that you have the verizon combo. In the pic, it looks like it has kind of an odd texture -- sort of corrugated-looking. Any comments, since you have one? Did you order yours or get it in a verizon store?

I think I will run by my nearby verizon store and see if they actually have one in stock that I could look at, though I'm not holding my breath that they will.

There are a few negative comments here about the Seidio case and how it limits access to the top row of keys, so I'm having second thoughts about having already ordered the Seidio combo. They don't ship it until the week of Dec 18, but checking my acc't online, I see that they have already pounded my credit card, but since they haven't shipped it yet, possibly I could still cancel the order and get my credit card credited back.

Yes, it does have grooves in the case. It gives it sort of a military or industrial look, but adds to the security of holding the phone. It also has a problem that has been discussed here. The tang on the small part near the camera does not engage the phone correctly. It seems that it is like this on most all samples. It doesn't hurt how well the case fits, but it is an annoyance. Some people didn't even notice it until they read about it. It is discussed in this thread:

Check page 31 for what I say about it. Here is a discussion on the problem and a photo in post #40.

shell/holster combo problem - Android Forums

Here is some more info:

My Video Review of the Droid Shell/Holster Combo - Android Forums

I'm keeping mine, which I sent for. Verizon has free overnight shipping by FedEx. I have 2 Verizon corporate stores near me and neither one had any. If they get them in before 30 days are up then I will see if another one fits perfectly and exchange it. If not then I will grind that tang off with my Dremel. It is not necessary at all and the case is not about to come off without it. As I have said, there is no perfect case yet. Decide which features (err, defects) are the least important to you.

Thanks very much for all the info -- really appreciate it. I just came back from my nearby verizon corporate store before wife and I went to eat. They had it in stock, I tried it on my Droid, liked it and bought it. AND ... the Droid account is in my wife's name since she gets a 22% corporate discount on the account due to the hospital she works for. Well, verizon gives us a whooping 25% discount on accessories because of the corporate discount, so we got the case combo for $22.50 + local sales tax! So any of you who are getting corporate discounts, you may also be able to get a 25% accessories discount.

So far, I'm not seeing the problem with my new case that you describe with the tang near the camera. Is this on the part of the case covering the body w/keyboard, or on the part of the case covering the screen, but that is near the camera button?

Thanks again! Now I've got to figure out how to cancel my prepaid Seidio order.

So how about losing the bright white tacky Seidio branding and go back to the subtle brand name on your case???
Hello, Thank you for your comments and we will take that into consideration, it may be a little bit, but we should be transition the logo into an embossed version that looks similar to this:

How long it takes them to process an order. I ordered mine day before yesterday before noon and it still says "processing".
How much time took place between you guys ordering them and them shipping it?

Orders are usually processed within 1-2 business days, if you ordered it yesterday, I suspect that you will receive your notification tomorrow, if you have not already.

EDIT

Honestly, I am upset I purchased this case. I am a Seido fan boy usually. But this case does not work for me. I am not able to get the upper letters, when I finally sneak my finger under the flap to press a key i always hit the bottom key in conjunction with it. Also, the back of the case makes alot of noise for some reason. I have no idea why. But when I move with it on the other people on the phone ask if i'm in a plastic bag or something. For some reason other having the back on makes my phone ECHO too. I have NO idea why. I take the back off no echo, but once it is on it echos....

It sounds like you may have a defective piece! We are sorry about your experience and definitely would like to help! Please PM me your order information and we will be more than happy to see what we can do for you!

I got my case in the mail today. And it does not slide well at all. its literally hard to slide open and shut. i called them and told them and they said I was the first person who ever called and said they had a problem with it.... guys.. you need to call and tell them about this sliding issue if we want it to be redesigned. if we all wait...our hinges are gonna be ruined.

Honestly, we have had ZERO complaints about the sliders in our log, have you tried to remove the plastic film underneath the screen, some users have reported better fitment with that removed.

I like that a company is proactively reaching out into the community to see their feedback! Not something you see all that much these days. And so far I like my seidio case. No problems or qualms. Maybe because I have not used the droid without it. (did slide it open a few times to see if there was a difference).

seidioseidio: any idea when the slim extended battery will be out? (not trying to hijack the thread just a question I think the community would like to know)

This is the half covering the keyboard and camera. There is small part of the case that wraps around the corner between the ON/OFF button and the volume button. At the end of that part is a little tab that is supposed to catch on the phone (surface where the keyboard is), but instead of engaging it just presses against the side of the phone.

OK, thanks very much for the detailed explanation -- found the flaw now. They haven't fixed it -- the flaw is still there, LOL. But I still like the case so far. Seems to be a good value for the $, particularly since they gave me a 25% discount!

Re the holster, I prolly will only use it infrequently, as I am one who tends to carry my phone in my pocket, but I like having the holster to use, depending on what I might be wearing. And I do like this holster, so perhaps I might use it more than I expect.

Has anyone had any experience using this holster in the horizontal or near horizontal position? I'm wondering if the phone stays in there under extended use in that position, without any tendency to start to slide out, since there is no "keeper", other than friction to keep it from starting to slide out when in the horizontal position.

I guess I was lucky. I haven't had any problems with my case so far. It's perfect. Slide action is exactly the same as before, I love it.

For those with touch sliding actions- try what I did (and it fixed my problem). FIRST make sure you didn't do the battery cover fix and put a business card under the battery cover. That will cause the Seidio case to fit improperly. Secondly, when the case is on, open and close the keyboard repeatedly about 25-30 times in a row. We're talking about a case that has less than a millimeter of space to take advantage of. Things won't fit perfectly, the case will graze ever so slightly due to the rubber-like spray. Sliding it open a bunch in a row fix this and it will fit perfectly and slide like stock form =)

On a side note, my slide action felt a little "stiff" the first 24 hours. Now it's perfect. People, you need to relax, let the case be on your phone for 24-48 hours and then write a review. Don't slap it on, and go "UGH, IT'S HARD TO SLIDE!". Just calm down, and slide it back and forth a lot and USE the phone and it will adjust itself naturally and be good to go =)

I use the holster and carry it in the horizontal position, including seatbelted in the car. It has stayed put, but I did touch it with my hand a couple of times and it slid out a little, like 1/4 inch or so. The thing is that it tightens as it slides out more, so it would take a lot to get it to fall out. After it slides out about 1.5 inches, it is even harder to push out the last inch. I think I could walk around with it upside down, but I wouldn't try running with it that way. It does not move at all in the horizontal position unless it is pushed.

Now that you confirm the defect from a new one from the store, I'm just going to grind that tab off with my Dremel. It isn't needed.

As a side note, I think it is good to have this comparative discussion between the Verizon combo and the Seidio combo. In my mind, these are the only 2 really viable case/holster combos, so being able to compare them in one thread is a help to those trying to decide.

I concur -- this discussion all in one thread has been very helpful to me in making my decision. I didn't even know about this vz case/holster combo until I found it on this thread, then went and found it on their website, then off to their store to see it and buy it. A week or so ago, we were in a local super mall and stopped at a large verizon big open store smack in the middle of the mall -- sorta like a super kiosk. I asked them about Droid cases, and all she showed me was a cheap-a** quality snap-on two-piece one that cost 29.99! No holster, just the cheapo case! Very overpriced!

Thanks for the comments on using the holster in the horizontal postion. I'll feel more confident carrying it that way now.

One more comment and question. I notice that the keyboard slides a bit tighter with the case on, which I actually really like -- it was too prone to want to slide slightly open when I would pick it up in my pocket without a case -- just my taste perhaps. I wonder it this is just due to the case, or due to the case and the fact that I left the factory film on the back of the keyboard slider.

I just tried it with the case on and off and it doesn't feel any different. I did take the factory film off 2 days ago, but I don't remember that making any difference, but it could have. As long as nothing is rubbing against the keyboard then a little bit of tightness should not be a problem. By the way, I just filed the tab off. It makes no difference, except that that part of the case no longer sticks out that little amount.

Sorry about that -- Old Fart and myself have been exclusively discussing the verizon combo in this thread

My keyboard feels tighter with the case on than off, which as I said, I actually like.

Re the flaw in the verizon case, as you rightly deducted, apparently they are still churning them out with the same flaw. I bought mine last night at a verizon store that is the busiest cell phone store I have ever seen anywhere. It is always packed with people! The place just amazes me. So given that fact, this store turns over a lot of product. Therefore, that case I bought cannot have been sitting in the store very long at all. It must have come down the line very very recently from manufacturing and warehouse.
