[ROM] [SELFKANG ICS AOSP ROM] CM9/ICS for Droid 4 -- [BETA 03/05/2012]

Can't wait for there to be a stable ICS rom without issues.

I know Hash and the gang are super-geniuses and totally tireless and generous but it kinda seems like by the time they crack it (with probably several tens of millions of dollars less in resources) the super-slow, tired and not generous Moto brass will have finally gotten off their asses and coughed it up.

I hope just so they can claim victory, though, that Hash et al do come out with a completely functional ICS ROM so we can figuratively tell Moto to suck it.

Keep it up, fellas!

It seems as if Hash kinda ditched this, at least temporarily, in favor of the Kindle. While I have a Kindle as well, and I love how nice ICS is running on it thanks to him, I'd really love my Droid 4 to be up to par. Not to sound unappreciative. He's done a great job so far. It's just sad to have seen progress crawl to a halt. In March at the rate it was going, I was sure all of the major issues would have been resolved within a month or two. Sadly, none of the major issues have been addressed since the front facing.

I think this may be sort of a harsh assessment. I don't believe hashcode has dropped the d4, I do wonder if he's hit a wall though, and is working on other projects until some breakthrough comes. He's essentially attempting to reverse engineer proprietary drivers.... this isn't an easy task. Have you ever tried to reverse engineer software without any sort of insight into how the original developer wrote it, or why? Not an easy task.

Keep being patient. Cm9 itself is still a work in progress, and our d4's seem to be a proprietary mess on top of that.

Actually, I have been hard at work with DHacker getting the new Moto ICS leaks ready for AOSP goodness. Based on how good its running we felt that for RAZR and Droid 4, our time would be better spent on what's around the corner.

Right now the build is mostly working for the RAZR and we are loading up the Droid 4 files to see how they run in the next few days.

To clarify:
Hardware acceleration for HD video in YouTube, Netflix, etc
Camera and Video recording
Chrome and other RenderScript apps

All working.

Now we do have some janky bits to work through:
We want to get data done right this time, im going to focus on this one till the device works the way it should. Data should come without having to go into menus and toggle stuff on/off over and over.

And the way Motorola setup the frame buffer is causing some graphical oddities at the moment (screen will shrink up and then pop out to the right size when you rotate the phone, etc)

So there ya have it. :-)

Thanks! I can't wait to see what awesome ICS goodness you have in store for us!

Holy ****, it's the big cheese himself :). That's great news, thank you for the update.

I hope I didn't come off as feeling entitled as I don't believe you owe us anything, and you could stop updating right now and I'd be nothing but grateful. I was just stating my (obviously incorrect) assumptions on how I saw the situation.

Thanks again!

No. You hit it right on the money (except the abandon part). Developing the new Kindle Fire kernel / ICS build set me back about a month or more on all of the other devices.

And while I've learned a lot through that process, I have quite a bit of catch up to do.

Awesome dude. I'm coming from debian/ubuntu/centos and I could help if someone could point me to some learning material. I really have no idea how android works, but I can read logs and match errors to components!

Nah man. I didn't think you were done with it. I thought you were preoccupied. Quick question, once the work on D4 is done, will that be a simple port to D3? I ask because I gave my girlfriend my CM9'd D3 when I got this, and she's eagerly awaiting video recording.

P.S. I love ICS on my Kindle. Fantastic job.

Real quick hash, while we have you here, what's your relationship with gummy? Do you do the nightlies for it? Will you give them the data fixes when you have them? How far behind can we expect gummy to be behind cm9 or aokp?

So, I'm not sure if this fixed the data issue, but since last night I have had no data issues, constant 4g as well, after updating to the newest nightly build. But before I did I actually wiped data/cache/davlick cache as well. Either that did it, or the newest nightly build fixed the data issues. We shall see. Great work!

I wiped everything and did a fresh flash to this nightly. Data is still buggy, but the wifi seems a lot more solid :)

Youtube plays in "HQ", not "HD", that's the only thing I've found. And recording videos nor panoramic pictures, or the face to unlock work. Other than that I've been golden!
