Showing Vehicle Speed on the Nav Screen

OK, I seached but can not find anything on the ability of the Droid Nav to show vehicle speed or have speed alarms like my Tomtom. It actually knows the speed limit of most major hiways and you can alarm is over 3 or 4 mph over.

I've been wondering about tracking my speed too but I haven't bothered looking into it yet. I was also wondering if it could track distance.

I use GPS Status for speed. Not sure if it has alarms and I don't know if it can run at the same time as the Google Maps Navigation. If it can, it would require that the GPS port be emulated as a serial port I suppose. I know it can be done iof you know anything about develoing code.

I use GPS Status which shows speed. My Tracks will do a nice job recording tracks that are then uploadable to your Google Maps account.

Both GPS Essentials and GPS Status applications have speed display as well as several other displays.

lol, I love it when this comes up. My car has an absolutely amazing app for keeping track of speed. It's called a speedometer! And it really works well.

See if your car has one and give it a try! it rocks. :D

Why??? You have a speedometer to track your speed! The alarms would be a nice feature but if I am driving somewhere that I need GPS I am usually paying attention to my driving!

I would just like my speed to show in the corner of the screen!!!!!!!!!!!! Chris

Sure but it would have to be part of maps to be right just like a GPS device like Garmin or Tom Tom. Not yet but I hope they are working on it at Google. It's an obvious requirement for them.

I would also love them to allow the map to scroll as you drive like the GPS units when you are just in map mode instead of navigate mode.

When was your speedometer calibrated last?

How much deviation does your speedometer give you based upon the inflation of your tires?

Does your speedometer create a log where it will store the speed you were doing at a particular location?

My thoughts exactly... :)

There is an old saying "Everyone likes a little ........., but no one likes a smart one!" Or two in this case!

Garmin, Tomton and others have provided this for years. Easy way to check our speedo.

Alarm is nice in known speed trap area's, like in front of our winter RV park in Arizona on Hiway 60.

I guess it depends on what kind of speedometer you have. I like to connect my garmin gps for long trips, even if I know where I'm going, just because I like seeing my speed in a digital read out, as opposed to a fluctuating needle. Its also very convenient having your speed on the windshield where you're looking anyway.

Geeze fellows, you kind of went a little hard on me there. It was just a joke, you know ha ha......Guess my sense of humor didn't come through on that post. Oh well, I can handle a #fail.

The Internet can be kinda flat and one dimensional at times. What one thinks is a joke is missed by others quite offen.

I searched here and on google as I stated, and then posted a reasonable question.
