Personally, I'd wait until your contract is up and leave Verizon for a GSM carrier. Verizon is slowly trying to cripple the Verizon modding community. I'm leaving when my contract is up, which can't come soon enough.

This is what I'm doing. Unfortunately that won't be until the end of next year or so, but I'm not giving Verizon any more of my money when my contract is up.

I say getting one used is the way to go. It might be a bit expensive but you can sell your phone once the new nexus phones are released. Like some of the others here, if verizon doesn't get the new nexus' im ditching them for att.
