when i do recovery from the menu it just brings up the duel core thing and then goes to a green droid with a spinning circle in the middle and just stays there

it got to the end of the bar and nothing happens

now it gives me a dead droid with a red triangle

and i think my phone is going to die soon. and i know if that happens im ****ed

Hold power and volume Up & Down to go into recovery and flash the update, you're almost there.

ohh, finally left the room! she has been hanging over my shoulder reading stuff on my screen and showing me recipes from her new magazine she got today.... I noticed one thing, the instructions do not say anything about installing device drivers for windows, is that necessary? and which to do, or do I need the Android SDK? I hope to get it done tonight, as we are headed out of town tomorrow and when she complains about her phone working crappy I want to hand her the D4 and say "here try this one instead..."

Keep doing it, you'll eventually get into recovery. I had to do that a few times too.

Press both volume buttons and release. Menu should pop right up.

i got it now it says failed to mount and theres no update anywhere.

Power down and do it again. I know I keep saying that, but the process usually takes a few tries. If it keeps saying it didnt mount after several tries then something may have gone wrong in the previous steps so you would have to start over. Usually when you reach the stage where you're at it should mount the external sd card.

That is strange, you should be select install from external and then just chose the zip you put on the sd card.

ok i did it like 15 times and still nothing. is there anyway to access my phone storage? and wait does it have to be a external sd card?

If you have a card you can use an adapter or another phone to put the zip on. Then stick it in your D4.
