Sirius XM Android app is here

Hey Sirius is out. Is it any good? I already have Pandora, Slacker and Last.FM. They annoy me to no end by not allowing me to change but so many songs. And oddly enough they seem to frequently play songs I dont want to hear.

And why is this app not in the Marketplace? Is it a BETA release or something?

IMO slacker is way better than SiriusXM if you comparing price to features, SiriusXM does have a good station list and cool DJs that give good news and stuff but that doesnt warrant the $10 increase in price over slacker. I was a SiriusXM subscriber for about 3 years and Im ditching it for slacker. If you are annoyed by the skipping limit fork over the $50 a year its worth it.

I like XM/Sir due to the fact that the DJ's play Music and not run their mouth...If I need to hear talk I'll listen to FM.

I have no problem finding anything that I want to listen to on it.

Worth the .07 cents per day that I pay.

I listen to Pandora a lot. I also have an XM account as well as online. Pandora has way better sound quailty then XM. XM has really missed the mark with this app.

As an owner of an XM MiFy radio since it's release in Dec 2003, I have followed the XM Forums for 5+ years. Many audiophiles and those with great hearing, mostly the younger folks, have complained about the satellite radio sound quality (SQ) for years. I think they mention the compression routines that are used by XM and Sirius and the merged company. This may be the source of your SQ concerns, not the app itself.

That being said, my ears have a lot of miles on them (58+ years). I have no complaints about the sound quality on satellite radio through any device, satellite radio, on-line streaming to PC/laptop, or the Android app.

My old ears could not detect any difference in SQ on my Android, using Bose QC-15 headphones, among the Sirius/XM app, Slacker, Pandora, or the built-in Music Player.

This is my experience, most likely your will differ.

Cool, thanks. I might have to check it out, I see it is pretty cheap.

Im just wondering but does anyone have a price on how much it Sirius costs for the Droid yet? I tried to look on the site but the apparently refuse to give me any price plans. I dont know why, Im only trying to use just the internet version and the one on my cell but I cant find any prices or any plans at all.

I already pay Sirius XM for 1 radio AND online streaming, which also enables me to stream XM on my Moto q9h phone (Windows Mobile 6.1 OS) for no extra charge, via mobile.musicdock.com, with presets, etc.

But that no-extra-charge mobile streaming apparently only works because my Moto uses Windows Media Player. I plan to buy an HTC Aria (Android 2.1), but it seems this new Droid app for Sirius XM is only free for 7 days, and I'm supposed to pay Sirius even more $ for "premium" accessibility?

If I'm already paying to stream XM on a phone, why should I have to pay more to do so on a different phone? Does anyone know if mobile.musicdock.com works on an HTC Aria? Is there any other app that would allow me to access my paid-for XM subscription on an Aria without double-paying Sirius?

Not sure why you'd have to pay more, unless XM subscriptions that are grandfathered in work differently... I have one Sirius radio and Sirius Internet Radio added on for $4 per month more. With this, I can use the SiriusXM app at no additional charge... I'm just logging into the account I already have, and it streams at the high quality bitrate.

Well, maybe I wouldn't have to pay more to stream XM after 7-day trial, since I recall now that I'd paid for online access. But that may be a moot point because my carrier, AT&T, apparently only allows the Aria to use apps from android.com/market, and the side-loading app that HTC had posted for use in installing non-market apps was removed from its website suddenly, per a 7/16/10 blog report. I'm just not clear whether the direct download from Sirius XM of its Android player app can be installed and run on the Aria. Anyone have experience with this issue?

Im getting so sick of AT&T that it just isnt funny anymore. I already despised Sprint but A&T is nearing my list of carriers to never get phones with. Shame, I did business with Cingular many years ago and it wasnt that bad. Dropped alot of calls though.

Meh

That's pretty much all I have to say about the Sirius XM app.

First complaint is that the app doesn't automatically do landscape mode. I dock my Droid in the car, so that's annoying.

Second would be the sound quality on it. I thought sound quality suffered when getting MP3s to my iPod, but jeez, this is pretty compressed.

Third would be the dearth of available free internet radio apps out there compared to Sirius/XM.

I suppose all I can hope for anymore is that they quickly take consumer feedback into account and improve their app.

Froyo + Sirius|XM = Fail...
On my Moto Droid, it just loops 15-20seconds of a song for like 5 minutes then changes to a new song to do the same thing with...

As for the AT&T crap...
Well, it's AT&T, what did you expect?

So with HTC's sudden removal this week of the downloadable Sync app for sideloading via PC/USB, is there no way to use Sirius XM's Android app on the HTC Aria (AT&T)? Is there no app at Android.com/market that'll let XM subscribers stream on the Aria?
