Sirius XM Android app is here

FastKatt, I'm having the same problem with froyo. Sometimes it will be working just fine and then it will skip to the next song or repeat like 20 secs. I didn't have any issues with 2.1. I'm hoping theres going to be an update for 2.2 soon.

As soon as 2.2 is officially released to the Droid, I'm going to start calling Sirius/XM to complain. Hopefully if enough people do it, we'll get an updated app sooner rather than later.

It is happening to me with 2.1. I play it all day at work through my computer speakers and the few times it does that are fairly minor to me. Most of the day, it plays just fine. I guess I don't find it to be that big of a deal.

I guess when I think about it with 2.1 it would cut out once in a while but I never thought much about it other than blaming it on verizons network. Sounds like the app needs a little tweaking.

I'm already a subscriber to Sirius....will they charge me to listen to Sirius on my Droid?
If you have the online streaming package then you are good. If not you need to get the streaming PKG. for 3.00 a month.

I had this on my Dinc for 2 days and the sound quality was horrendous!! Constant popping through my BT headset so I dumped it and went back to Pandora

I put 2.2 on the phone a couple of days ago (FRG01B) and the Sirius/XM app started acting up far worse than before. So I emailed them to tell them that they need to update their app as the buffering was really bad under 2.2.

They wrote me back with a standard "here is where you download the app and how much it is" response. After writing back in BOLD, can't you read, they said that they couldn't find my account, could I provide them with info on it. The very e-mail address that it comes from is the contact e-mail, but thats ok. I will concede that they have few brain cells at this point.

The last response was actually a little more thoughtful. "We would suggest removing the firmware upgrade so that you can properly enjoy the application and what it has to offer". My response was, "if you don't want the heads-up on 2.2, fine. Every Android phone out there will have it within a month. I'm not the only one that will be contacting you".

On a lighter note, I have noticed that when the buffering gets bad is when I do something else with the phone, like look up contact info or read a calendar entry for example. As long as the phone sits idle with no buttons touched, the buffering is OK, but far from perfect. Yesterday was unbearable to even listen to. I shut the app down and restart it. It helps, but its shortlived.

With any luck, others will contact them to complain as well, but be prepared for taking two days to get to anyone with something other than standard canned answers.

Not the one I am test driving the software with
We'll see what happens...
I am trying to use the app for the Android.
I am running the 2.2 software
I am using a Motorola Droid (Original)
The buffering sucks!
The app repeats the same 15-20 seconds of the song over and over.
I’ve uninstalled & reinstalled the app 2x to no avail
There is no way I would pay to use this software as unstable as it is!

Please advise…

I'm running the latest version that was released yesterday, frg22 odexed stock theme, and i've gotten sirius to work with a fix that was posted in the BB v0.4 thread originally.

You need to grab the FRG22-release.zip file and edit the build.prop file inside. You can open the archive with 7zip, and edit the build.prop with notepad.

once you get the build.prop file open, scroll down the line that says,

Code:
media.stagefright.enable-player="true"

and edit it changing the "true" to read "false". close the doc, you will be asked if you want to save the changes, answer yes. Then 7zip will ask you if you want to save inside the archive, answer yes, and then put this FRG22-release.zip onto your sd card. I've installed this with rom manager, and i have serious, with no loops, crackling, or loss of signal. I've had no other adverse affects to any other software on my phone and i'm a happy camper at the moment.

This also worked for me with BBv0.4 with smoked glass installed over it, and the other released froyo rom FRG01BODEXEDOTA.zip.

I uninstalled the app, downloaded it again and reinstalled it and I see no difference yet.

Good luck!

Those of us who have rooted our phones and have been using Froyo for a while have been aware of this problem for a while. It affects Sirius as well as other streaming music apps like Pandora, etc.

The problem has been identified as being caused by a new multimedia decoder in 2.2 called "Stagefright". Someone discovered that if you disable Stagefright, the phone will use the older decoder and the Sirius looping/skipping problems go away.

Unfortunately doing this requires root access, as a system file (build.prop) needs to be modified.

Of course what should happen eventually is either Google fixes Stagefright, or Sirius updates their app. One or the other.

So you guys are definitely right, Sirius is giving you bogus answers. Chances are though, their CSRs simply have not been informed of the true issue yet.

Ok, kids, here is what I did. I did several searches on this forum regarding rooting and what I would need. I'm a noob to rooting so it wasn't easy, having had no interest before. Well, because I am on 2.2, that complicates things a bit. Fortunately, very recently, Easy Root came out with a version that allows you to root 2.2 with a couple of button pushes. Best $0.99 you can spend if you want to root.

Next move was to figure out how to edit the file listed above, build.prop. I went after the free Terminal Emulator first, installed it and that wouldn't run. So I saw that someone recommended Root Explorer. Another awesome purchase and highly recommended for a couple of bucks. Astro wouldn't get to the root files, so this is needed. I went into the /system folder and found the file build.prop. I pushed and held and went into the text editor, after forcing R/W access with a button. I edited the suspect line from TRUE to FALSE, backed out, was prompted to save the file. It did, as well as making a backup copy. I rebooted the phone, just in case, launched Sirius/XM app, and lo and behold, no more buffering issues!

Thanks for pointing us in the right direction on this problem. I'm happy to have the music playing correctly again!
