so i was just at the verizon store and...

OP, here's what I don't get.

The guy was cool, and gave you the replacement you went there looking for. He didn't make a big deal about you having modded it. So you make a thread calling him a retard? Wow, what a way to show gratitude. Maybe the guy was just smart enough to tell a hardware problem from a software problem, and decided not to call you out for having it rooted and running a custom ROM?

It's people like you who make people like him think twice about being nice. I mean, you're not complaining, per se. - but calling the VZW guy a 'retard' for hooking you up with a replacement device is not cool at all.
I wouldn't have called him retarded...maybe excessively oblivious. Either that or he was just cool as all hell.
You gotta admit that, at least.

Well, I was leaning more towards cool as all hell. Maybe because my VZW folks are the same way.

Uhh no, worst case is they'd say "Ataranine, you realize running non-approved software voids your warranty, right? Would you like to go ahead and process a claim with Asurion? (assuming you have insurance)"
That was a joke, bud.

I know, I was just being a pain in the rear.....

I didn't want a replacement I wanted a charger...I mabe should have not called hoim retarted. And he was not "cool" as some people say he acctually didn't know what he was doing

Okay, well, I guess "uninformed" would have been a better choice of words. Still, chargers shouldn't go flaky all of a sudded in a habitual fashion, so maybe there is a hardware problem. A replacement might solve it.

I know, I was just being a pain in the rear.....
Well,

I don't think they'd address me by "Ataranine", as that's not my real name. :P

Yeah, that was the semi-failed funny in the whole thing I posted.

EDIT: Wow, when did my title change to "Master Droid"? It's a good thing this isn't a forum about fishing lures. I'd hate to be the "Master Baiter" *LMAO*

Ha it be funny if he noteed your acount an that if you go in again they say ur warrentyu didn't cover ur droid.....id roflbot xD

Had my phone replaced because of a bad headphone jack. Not only did the verizon guy not care, but he had me root his phone while I was there.

so the moral of this story is that the guys at verizon = stupid.

No the moral of the story is.. Verizon reps don't care if you are rooted and running Roms. At best they are clueless about it.

I disagree One of the stores here looked at mine cause I had a simple question. He looked at me and said I'll be right back I need to ask the tech about this. They both came out and he handed me my phone back and said you voided your warranty and I not allowed to touch that phone. I continued about my question and then he said you probably did the best thing you can do by rooting it. I would just get on the net and visit the forums. They are full of good information.
So they all are not stupid or just over look the occasional rooted phone.
Now if I have a real problem it will be unrooted and they will never remember who I was.

If any of you ever need any kind of warranty repair, unroot your phone first. There have been stories where people got the replacement phone and then were charged full retail ($500) for their Droid through their cell phone bill. Yes, that definitely sucks but they kinda got you by the cajones if you did root. Of course, you can always give them back the replacement you had but you're still stuck w/ a dead phone. Unroot and be safe! :)

Did no one see the one guy's post about rooting not being warranty voidable? You can root your phone all you want and VZW or whoever can't say no. It's legal. So forget about unrooting and all of that, just take the phone in, hand it to them, leave with a new one.

Well Ted we did read that post and read the news weeks ago...what does legality have to do with warranty? have you read any of the previous posts??? As noted earlier legality means nothing....you can do what you want with your phone however that doesn't mean you can do anything you want with your phone and Verizon or Motorola have to give you replacements or new phones at your will. Why not shoot my slow working droid with my 45 and then take it in for warranty???

Wrong. If you read my post correctly, I stated that you can't be denied a warranty claim just for rooting your phone. If you take a rooted phone in, they can not just say "eh, no, denied, your phone is rooted." Now, if you had a rooted phone and you took a sht all over it and tried to return it, then obviously they can void it. Like I said in my prior post, rooting cannot void a warranty.

maybe you should just count your blessings that this guy over looked your warrenty voiding program for whatever reason, and not call him a [little slow]. don't look a gift horse in the mouth

Before I read your responses I did change the O.P. choice of words. Please refrain from using that word as there are many people who read DF who know people with learning disabilities - a family member of mine also does.

And, the O.P. needs to understand they lucked out - maybe. Apparently Motorola has been threatening to void warranties on returned phones that are rooted. So, you might want to sweat it out a bit that you don't get a chargeback for the full price of the rooted Droid you turned in.

And, no I am not making that story up. So, maybe the store rep wasn't slow afterall.

You know what is aggravating? Working as a tech (be it cell phone, computer, network, whatever) either in a store or an office, and someone comes in, acting as if they know it all, and assuming the guy behind the counter knows nothing.

I worked at Gateway for some time as one of the in-store computer technicians, responsible for doing repair work on customer systems. I cannot tell you how many times I got that attitude. Look, if you know it all, then don't bother bringing your gadget in for repair, or to be looked at or whatever... figure it out yourself. There are many, many knowledgeable and intelligent people who work for VZW, so quit assuming that just because they work in the store means they are stupid. The people at the store I frequent happen to be helpful, and knowledgeable about all of the VZW products. The disrespect that is heaped upon the folks that work either in the call center, or in the store on this forum is unreal.

Give them a break already.

Rooting does void your warranty. The OP definitely lucked out.
