State of the Droid Turbo: 2 months in

Yes, I say on every thread I wish it was smaller (that's what she said) :)

Otherwise, I love MOST everything about it. I'm impressed with the speakerphone and call clarity (hey, it's Moto afterall). No complaints about the camera (and the 21mp is GREAT for snapping receipts for my business expenses). I've had a few small/soft drops and not even a scratch - still looks out-of-the-box brand new. It's fast - I find myself using the internet on my smartphone more because pages finally load in times reasonably close to laptops.

1) I DO wish it had an SD card. 64gigs is nice, with a 128gig card it would have been a lot better.
2) It's hit-and-miss at picking up the "ok turbo" commands a few feet away with any background noise and/or not talking directly at it. Nitpicking, sure, but in 2015 I expect better.
3) Not Turbo fault, but my launcher and some apps don't seem to have caught up to the power of this phone yet.

Also, I suspect a rogue app misbehaving but about 3 times I've gone to bed with over 50% battery only to wake-up with it dead. When that happens there's really no way to know what caused it.

I won't be upgrading for at least 3-4 years. But if a comparable or better phone comes out <5" display it will be good-bye Turbo.

Download GSAM Battery and let it run for a couple days using it as you normally would. This will help you to determine your rogue app.

It starts as blasphemy... He's a witch!!! Get him!! Lol.. Jk

All who got the turbo on opening weekend or day.. Say I!! Lol.. :)
I! Got mine (B.N., 64GB) on launch day (also my birthday, so it was a happy day indeed)! I've loved it ever since! Can't add much to the positive points already made. Just reiterating that all those features make for a great, fast phone! I thought I'd miss the blinking LED, but quickly found out that the moto action and display are much better and couldn't go back! Love this thing! [emoji2]

There's no disputing that the Active Display embarrasses the flashing color LED. I could never get a hold on LED notifications and felt they only caused confusion and angst. Not only does Active Display tell you more about what's going on, but it also let's you preview greater detail, dismiss selectively, and even sure yourself that nothing important is going unaddressed.

Moto Actions is awesome too, being able to silence rings and wake the screen with just a motion of the hand. Not many phone manufacturer's so-called boat or overlays to the Android operating system are as useful, innovative and so well received as these two.

Thanks, but it's only happened a few times over 3 months. If it is a rogue app, it's misbehaved extremely infrequently. I think it might be an app or the playstore trying to update while I sleep with a bad 4g/wifi signal.

Cool at first, then I realized it was too sensitive (or not sensitive enough?) to be practical. Great feature when it works, which doesn't work well enough.

Are you using a screen protector? Some don't have the necessary cutouts for the infrared sensors on top and for the infrared emitters located in the top right and both bottom corners.

Even Verizon's own Flexible Glass screen protector isn't cut out properly, missing the bottom two emitter cutouts!

Using the phone nude should reveal how well it works.

For those of you saying you can see yourselves keeping this phone over 2 years, aren't you concerned about how Moto phones are the first to begin lagging after a year of use? Working in the sales side of the industry, Moto phones are always the ones people come back to me and say have slowed down after a year or so of use. I'd be interested in knowing why exactly this is,speaking of...

A lot of people don't know to clear the phone cache or do a FDR once in while . I've never noticed any of my Moto phones slow down over time .

The average phone user just turns the phone on and keeps it charged. Then they add and delete programs which leave garbage on the phone .

@jackiescivic Yes, I am concerned. I had the Droid 2, which had major issues, and the Droid RAZR Maxx. The RAZR was laggy as hell in the last 6 months or so of my contract. I was set against buying another Motorola phone. I later learned that the older firmware coupled with applications designed for newer versions of firmware may have been a major contributor. However, after hearing the Turbo would be a pure android offering and among the first to receive new firmware I felt these lag issues "should" no longer be an issue. I just hope this phone does not let me down in the 18-24 month timeframe.

I agree we have to maintain our phones with power cycling, cache clearing and maybe even the occasional rogue app data clear, but I don't think we should be required to FDR to retain optimal performance. If we have to then the firmware wasn't optimal in my mind. I don't uninstall & reinstall windows programs every couple years on my PC nor do I want to.

Funny... I've never had this issue.. All I've ever ran is Motorola.. Do a factory data reset when it lags.. Lag be gone..to me doing factory data resets.. Its just a part of life for optimal performance.. Just like doing a tune up on your vehicle. .. Some user maintenance is required.

I think alot of it also has to do with how many apps get installed and un-installed.. But everyone has their own take on this...

I would have to agree here. I know that when I was going crazy installing and then uninstalling apps I could get the D2 to become very laggy but after an FDR it was just as spunky.

My son has my old D2G and it works fine. No, it's no where near as snappy and smooth as the Turbo, but duh... It's what, like 6 processor generations ago?

Chipset - TI OMAP 3640
CPU - 1.2 GHz Cortex-A8
GPU - PowerVR SGX530
