Stock Motoblur ICS for droid4

What makes me curious is, if the ics rom is ready to rock on the Droid 4 already...why don't they just push it out ota first lol? Ik it would screw up their release plan but come on: if it's done, stop making us wait VERIZON (and you too Motorola)!

Sent from my DROID4 using Tapatalk 2

B/c there is still a few bugs to be worked out. Some of them were mentioned earlier in this thread by me and a couple others.

Help, trying to install it. It keeps aborting saying "assert failed: mount ("ext3", "MTD", "system", "/system") and then E:Error in /t.mp/sideload/package.zip (Status 7) then aborts. I have uninstalled Safestrap and am running the stock Gingerbread 2.3.6

what pilom said. I tried that at first as well. I did a full SBF load with RSD and it worked fine.

I am wanting to strat debloating, can i delete the obvious (blcokbuster, slacker, etc..) or should I move them to my SD card?

ICS lets you disable (freeze) those apps (where you normally would go to uninstall an app). Always disable or freeze system apps either through settings or Titanium Backup, since deleting them tends to break fastboot (not that fastboot isn't already broken now that we flashed to a leaked ROM).

A few of the bloat apps like Blockbuster can be uninstalled normally from the Applications menu in Settings.

Do not delete/uninstall any other bloatware apps. Just freeze them with something like Titanium Backup or NoBloat

I just installed the leak (didn't use the method to keep root) because Amazon is sending a replacement for my device that is supposed to get here tuesday.. (I had crackling in the handset speaker during voice calls and my keyboard is really hard to slide). Figured I would go ahead and install the leak to check it out. Honestly I'm really looking forward to the actual update. This rom is the best I've used yet. Everything works excellently.

That may not have been the smartest thing you've ever done. You voided your warranty by installing the leak, and if Amazon check it (which they probably will) and ICS ROM will be a dead giveaway that you modded your device. It's all over the internet that the ICS build for the D4 is a leak, and leaks ARE considered unapproved modifications. Now, you are in danger of being billed for the replacement device.

Amazon doesn't check lol. They check three things - whether the box the phone arrived in is damaged, if the outside of the phone looks damaged, and if it powers on.

If those three things are ok, you have absolutely nothing to worry about (Verizon is the same way, FYI).

I don't think anybody checks. Lol. I had my OG droid replaced 4 times for free. Damn keyboard sucked and kept bubbling up and falling off. Well I would just walk into the VZW store and show them the phone. Phone would be on with a custom rom. You could easily tell. Lol. They swapped phones no problem and I would walk out with a new one right then.

I use bluetooth with a sony radio in my car (auto start pandora) and it pairs it flawlessly.

Vehicle Dock works perfectly, it's actually a version I've never used before but I like it a lot.

Looking forward to the official release so we can see root access and some fully-functional custom roms.

I like the face unlock feature, works pretty well; it also has you set up a pattern or a pin in case it can't see your face.

Anyways... I'm kind of rambling so I'll shutup now.

we will eventually be able to root there just isnt a method yet, and as far as getting to the official update when its released or when fastboot leaks, its not impossible just might take us a little longer for getting over excited and stealing this version. They will probably do the best than can to prevent that, but there are more developers in the world than the people that dev for motorola. I really dont care ill call asurian and have them send me a refurb device lol

I'm not worried about it. It's definitely NOT the smartest thing I have ever done in any case. If they want to give me a hassle so be it. I'll feign ignorance and say it just got pushed to my phone automatically. It's not like my phone is rooted, so I don't really think they're going to give me a hard time, if they do I'll request the original phone back and just get a refurbbed one from VZW. In either case I don't really care, I also purchased the extended warranty and insurion. So I'm in the clear either way. Either way, it does not matter and I'm not worried about it, especially since as far as custom roms go, this beats every single one out there for this device...

I'm thinking when the OFFICIAL update is pushed OTA that we should still be able to use that one. I don't see why we couldn't. Since the update will look for certain prerequisites that were in the 219 build. They should still be there in this earlier version of ICS. You might be able to just flash the official update zip right over top of this one and have it work just fine. Won't know until the day comes.

Has anyone who has done this update and kept root been able to install safestrap and a second system? I haven't seen any comments about this yet.

havent tried SS yet, dont really want to as there isnt a rom i liked alot.

So far i have not found anything that doesnt work. I have full root, I have working wifi tether and everything else i have done is working. anyone have or find something that isnt?

I had a rooted 215 that would not OTA to 219, so I factory reset my droid 4, installed 219 via fastboot, then installed the ICS leak.

I did the voodoo root keeper stuff and it sees the root backup, it will not restore root.

I like the ICS build, gcal sync seems to go nuts from time to time, but it is nice.

I have previously ran AOKP (via safestrap) and must say, they but a lot of cool tweaks in AOKP that I miss in the blur version.

Webtop does work on my lapdock 500, and it has the option to run apps in phone or webtop mode which basically trips the app to run in tablet mode. Some apps will crash in webtop, but overall it works.

Hopefully root is achieved, as well as retail ICS fastboot files so when either the official or custom rom comes out, we can slap that puppy on the D4.

Things went smoothly for me. I do not have safestrap installed, just a rooted 6.13.219 installation. I never did a factory reset. I have never tinkered with fastboot, so I don't think that's a required step as noted in the sticky thread.
1) Backed up root with Voodoo OTA RootKeeper
2) Temp unroot
3) Restore root
4a) Manually download leaked ICS
4b) Reinstall missing apps/files that the update process whined about, one by one
5) Installed ICS via recovery, successfully

This ICS release is not what I was hyped-up for. I'm not saying I would rather have 6.13.219 back, but it didn't live up to the hype for me. CM9 will eventually foot the bill, I'm sure.
