That probably is an easier thing, let us know how you make out.

could we re root and strart over with clock woork my sprecovery was backed up and i performed a clock work back up but i cant get it back if i could start over id b fine with that

ok, let's start from here, and keep the quoted messages so I can keep track easier:)

1 - You have an sprecovery nandroid backup file that is sitting in /sdcard/nandroid that you can go back to

2- you have clockwork installed right now and it can not do sprecovery restores by design.

3 - you have rom manager installed and the bottom option to flash an Alternative Recovery System is grayed out (this would reflash the sprecovery bootloader)

4 - Android Terminal Emulator (market name, the app name is just Terminal Emulator) does not let you su

Let me know if the above 4 statements are true or false

Link 1 in my signature will let you root and then install sprecovery. Do those steps work for you? Steps 1-26

the only problem is when i go in to android termanal emulatior and type su it says i dont have supermisisions but i have the nandroid and clockwork recovery

Can you restore to a previous backup when all was well?

I too am experiencing the same issue. I just rooted my droid (for the second time since i unrooted when i thought the ota for 2.1 was happening couple weeks ago) with out any issues. saw the good reviews on rom manager purchased tried go to newest ultimate droid i believe it was 8.1 it downloaded and upon loading back up got stuck on the loading screen. I made the error of not creating a backup with clockworkmod just w/ nandroid. at the time i thought they used same recovery files (lesson learned). only way i could get past the looping was doing a wipe date/factory reset. it let me load back up in ultimate droid rom w/o su. i tried to do the update.zip, tried using droidhelper to try flash back to nandroid with no avail. so like many others i have a rom but with out su.

to answer your question all 4 statments prove to be true. i tried to do your steps on ur first link but since it keeps loading the clockworkmod (v1.7.8.5) i can apply the sdcard update:update.zip then reboot system but makes no difference.

thx for the help!

Use Astro to look into both the /sdcard/nandroid and the /sdcard/clockwork/nandroid folders to see if you have files there.

What is in the update.zip? Is it your previous backup? That isn't a nandroid recovery image (I dont think)

At this point, I'm guessing the 3rd link in my signature would have been way faster as it takes only 10 minutes or so and then you are back at stock with a functioning phone.

post 51, page 6 of this thread:)

You need to get sprecovery running on the phone again and get off of clockwork.

But, you don't have root access so I don't think you can.

Which means you need to unroot.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/hacking-solutions/30446-how-unroot-cyanogenmod.html

or go back to stock (link 3 in my sig)

Or...if you did a clockwork backup (it would be in the empty folder you have) that would get you to the previous version....except you need root to delete /system to make room for the other recovery file. Which again points you back to link 3 in my sig.

I'll add that this is the fix. Something caused this for many people today who found their way to the forum or who were already here. If it is due to an app in the market and it is causing issues for folks who don't have online help that won't be good for those who got stuck and couldn't find help.

Yes you can. I'm using smoked glass and have used MM to apply themes.

Are you taking the sbf path? Post back what you end up doing and if it works for you. That might save time for the next person.

and, I bet you learned a bunch of stuff today nonetheless. We all tend to learn more about things when they aren't working:)

Exactly what I did when updating the rom.
I'm going to try the Link 3 method, but all the red lettering scares me.

How did you make out? And that sure is some big red lettering eh? lol.

i have clock work and i have no super permisions when in android emulatior i type su and it says permisions denied

What rom do you currently have installed, what issues if any are you having with it?
(I don't know if you got cyanogen installed, are working in trying to get it installed, trying to get it uninstalled, etc)

What directions/methods did you use to get to the above rom, if it differs from the below one?

What was the previous rom you had installed and what directions/method did you use to get that one?

Do you have a backup, and if so what kind and where is it?

Do you have root explorer, the superuser app in the app drawer, or other rooting tools you've used in the past?

Thanks for all your help. ultimately i had to do the last option on your signature "Unroot/Unbrick your phone using .sbf by ikithme (get back to out of the box original setup)"

and yes the red letters scared me more than once. but it worked perfectly it restored back to 2.01 stock. I rooted again and uploaded ultimate droid 8.6.3 (while waiting for the movie to start the the theater) and worked perfectly. thanks again
