Swype Android Beta!!

One more stupid question. How do I pull up the "downloads page"? I closed it and now I don't know how to find it?

You have to login to the e-mail account that you used to sign up for the beta. Then check the e-mail you got from them and the download link should be there.

Let me restate/ re-ask, I have it downloaded from Swype (twice, I guess) and it took me to the "downloads" on my Droid. How do I reopen that page on my Droid that lists the non-market downloads?

I don't know why you need to go there again, but I get your question now. Just open the browser that you used to open your e-mail from and go to the menu of that browser and find the "Downloads".

I gave up and downloaded a 3rd time to get to my non-market downloads page. I will now post my question elsewhere on this forum. I have another download that I want to delete from that page.

There's no such thing as a "non-market downloads page". You are talking about the downloads cache of your browser. All your downloads that do not come from the market are saved to your SD card in the download folder. The "page" that you are talking about when you downloaded the Swype-Installer.apk is the cached downloads list of your browser. Does that help a bit?

give this a last try:

1. first make sure go to phone setting >application> check mark unknown sources.
2. sign up for beta version at https://beta.swype.com/android/create/
3. once link sent to your email, make sure you use stock browser and go to thaat link page.
4. click download to start downloading,
5. once download ends click the file and pick "package installer" to open the file
6. once done installing, go to phone setting>language keyboard> uncheck android keyboad, and check mark swype.

let me if this helps.

Yes thank you!

Most likely it will have a price. I don't see any reason why they would just let us use it for free unless they feel charitable enough. LOL

Grrr. I installed the DroidMod ROM yesterday so i could check out this beta swype, and I like it. I read the instructions that inferno posted and was excited that I could reinstall the SmokedGlass ROM and it would work with the beta release, but I am stuck. I have reinstalled the SG ROM and and when i try to install the original swype data there is no option to uninstall. I see clear data, and force stop. Those are my only two options. So I cannot install this beta without ridding the SG ROM of it's preinstalled swype. Anyone else get past this obstacle?

Thanks to all the helped this thick headed dork out! Everything all good again. It'll take a bit for me to get used to it. Hopefully it will stay free long enough for me to decide whether or not I like it.

Hate to burst the bubble of those who think Swype is about to be available for purchase in the Market after a short "beta" period; that's very unlikely. Swype has not changed their strategy of marketing to OEM manufacturers. They've simply made a version of their keyboard available to a select group of users on the Android platform to test its functionality and performance.

As the folks at Swype have said repeatedly, they are not staffed to provide support to thousands (much less millions) of individual users. Furthermore, they want to be sure their product works identically in every device. With the Android platform proliferating to a wide variety of devices, that is a daunting challenge. Finally, if you were a software firm and had a choice of receiving $2 on every one of 100,000 devices sold or $5 for 20% of 100,000 devices which would you choose?

If you don't know the answer to the last question, you shoulda paid more attention in the fifth grade.

What original swype data are you installing or do you mean to say that you are trying to install the "leaked" Swype.apk from before? Just a heads up also, the "leaked" Swype.apk does not work anymore. You're gonna be using the beta now.
