Swype Android Beta!!

Here you go guys. No need to search with Astro or delete Swype Installer.

1. Install Android Mate (Free Version)
2. DRPro – Mount Phone
3. Android Mate >
3a. File Explorer
3b. /system/app/Swype.apk (long press delete)
3c. /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so (long press delete)
4. DRPro – Unmount Phone (reboot)
5. Follow instruction for Swype Installer

BTW Thanks to Bastosero who got me thinking outside the box….

Whenever I try to uninstall Swype, no matter how I do it, with smoked glass 5.0.1, it says uninstall failed. I can't get rid of this! Help please.

Did you try and follow my steps from an earlier post, bro?

I did try. From the app manager, there isn't even an unistall option. There's just a "clear data" option, a greyed out clear cache and clear defaults, and a force stop button which seems to do nothing. When I view the apk in the system/apps folder with SUFBS it just gives me the option to install again (which fails), and when I try to uninstall via the original apk file I downloaded to my SD card, it fails. I'm new to this and out of ideas here.

Click on Force Stop and from there go to the Astro steps from the steps I created. You're not supposed to view the files from Astro. You just need Astro to find all the files that is linked to Swype. You then use Root Explorer (another app from the market) to delete all those files that you found in Astro.

Nice job, bro. Yeah, for those who have DroidRootPro you can do it this way also.

A part of me is amused with all of the rooted people who are having problems installing Swype..

Dudes, I thought rooting was foolproof and you could get anything:icon_ devil:

Thank you so much.... worked perfectly... to help others, with the steps originally given saying to uninstall first, I figured "uninstall" as in how you would uninstall something from windows... to unregister it if you will.... before deleting everything to not mess things up... but that wasn't possible for me, or necessary... as simply deleting the two files in system/apps and system/lib was all I needed to do to allow the install of the new beta.

Now... how long will this beta last? Eventually, they're gonna want money. :)

Hopefully, by next week they should put it in the app market. They should take it out of beta next week and we can just get updates for it. The other question would be, how much is it worth? To me, since it's a very useful app, I'd pay somewhere in the $5 range.

Keep telling yourself that as an excuse not to root buddy...jkg

It is....When was the last time we had a major problem like Swype?

My swype is now working perfectly on my droid. I rebooted my phone, let it sit for a while and i noticed it started working again. I had all the aforementioned problems as well. Non rooted phone I might ad

Same here except I'm rooted with DroidMod, MM, etc. I tried both removal/installation methods to no avail. After the 3rd reinstall of Swype, I booted, got the same message, verified swype input still didn't work, put the phone down and grabbed lunch for an hour, came back and it now mysteriously works.

Must be some sort of behind the scenes registration lag. Hey... at least it's working now! :icon_ banana:

Rooted and I'm running DM 1.0. I had the leaked version before.

All I did was uninstall the leak through Manage Applications then install the official version.
Seems to be working. No reboot or anything needed.

bastosero... followed your directions to a "T"... upon the final reboot though, I got the same error message:

"The Swype package you installed is configured for another device and will operate with limited functionality. Please contact Swype about this issue."

And now it doesn't work. HELP!

Are you using AdamZ's SmokedGlass ROM or a different one?

I'm using everything stock... original home screen, original ROM, everything.

If you get that message and swype will only work by tapping, just switch to the android touch keyboard, then switch back to swype and it should work. I had this issue and this fixes it for me. I saw this posted on the swype forums
