Swype beta 5612 expired?

I found the newest .apk here.<edit: removed link>

I downloaded this about a half hour ago. It downloaded but wouldnt parse (I have no idea what that means).

Hey Swype Inc.! If you monitor any of these forums (and you should be monitoring them!!!) you would see that there are a LOT of us here who would gladly pay for your product. BUT we are also getting tired of all the runaround. PLEASE give us a product we can buy. If you keep going the this way for much longer you will lose our good graces and our attention. That is all.

If you care so much about sharing your opinion with Swype, I suggest you go on their website and share it in their forum. You'll find many others who have expressed the same opinion.

You'll also find that Swype's business strategy does not currently include selling the product to end users.

i understand their focus is with OEM contacts as that is where the money is to be made, but i cant help to wonder...how hard would it be for them to throw an app on the market, charge a few bucks for it, and release an update every few months. i cant see it taking up that much of their time.

i havent read their forums, but has Swype commented on this issue?

I agree with mixologist that SlideIT is the best alternative to swype, and their paid version is best.

where is the download for the full version of SlideIt? I can't locate it in the market. I'm using it now (Lite version) and, like many others will generously donate if I can download the full version.

For the ones signed up for beta, I had the 'Parsing' problem also.
Here's the steps i took.

1. go into root explorer
2. search 'SWYPE'
3. delete all files
4. reinstall the Swype installer.apk
5. try again, if the 'parsing' problem happens again...
6. restart your phone and run installer.apk again.

OMG YES, I just received a Beta invite email at lunch today! I filled it out the 1st version quick and was lucky enough to find the 5612 version on here. I thought I was screwed as well so I downloaded shapewriter this morning. It's not quite as bad as I thought it would be....the transition to shapewriter was going to be easy. But hellllll yes now I do the Beta!

Since it's posted on that blog, does that mean it's legal and all to download it?

Here's the scoop...one more time:

Swype owns the software and gets to say how they release it and to whom. For their own reasons they are releasing it through beta testers. If you are one of those testers you can legally use it. If XYZ blog posts a copy of the latest movie in the theater that doesn't make it ok to download it and it doesn't make it ok to make a link to it from here either. The same holds true for unreleased software. It is considered warez.


DF isn't doing this to be mean they are doing it because it is the legally/ethically correct thing to do.

when did you sign up? You are the 2nd person I have heard of to get such an email. Emails did go out on the 8th to previous members of the beta team for Swype.

On 03/23/10 I do believe. I had read this thread and checked my email this morning but nothing was there and I was bummed. Then I got back from lunch and was like :icon_ banana::icon_ banana:

If you have trouble installing the new beta version, try rebooting after uninstalling the old one. That was what fixed it for me.

Worked for me, but I had to try twice. Got to the end of the first try and got a message saying "license registration failed". Second time went right through.

dito....and yes i had to install...uninstall...then install again. it worked after the second time.
