System Update fail

Start a new thread, this problem is not only over 3 months old it's for the wrong phone.

Yes, fbm it is three months old, but it is for this posters phone.

I was having the same problem where I would get update message and I would either tell it to wait (and then roll back the root via EasyRoot) or tell it to update, after restarting and then it would get half way through the triangle setup screen and then stop. I would have to pull the battery to get the droid to start back up normally again. No matter how long I left it. Here's my Droid's FW and Baseband 411. I have a Droid "legacy" I guess it'd be called since Droid X is out now.

Android Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: C_01.43.01P
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-g103d848
android-build@apa26 #1
Build Number: FRG01B

Am I at the most recent FW version? Do I need to worry about future updates? Will EasyRoot help with updates? I did do a System Update check and it is telling me I do have an update available. Any help would be appreciated!

bryanc1, you are not at the most recent FW version. The most recent FW version is FRG22D. I take it you are rooted since you asked if EasyRoot will 'take' care of further updates. It will not. EasyRoot nor UniversalAndroot will re-root your phone if you accept the update.

So that brings us to this. Do you have a custom recovery image installed on your phone? I.E. SPRecovery or ClockworkModRecoery (the latter usually installed via ROM Manager in the market). I have a guide for rooted users to manually install SPRecovery linked in my guides below, and SPRecovery is pretty much reliable for blocking updates. But there's other rom's, etc. that would make it so you don't even get the notice, but . .

Then let us know where you want to go from here.

I must keep seeing things. I keep seeing 2's and X's in the "current phone here" on peoples profiles when I respond first, only to see them change later.

My apologies.

Listen to Teddy on this one, he's got it nailed.

Okay, I got my phone back to 2.0.1 unrooted.

Now I go to Menu > settings > about fone > system updates

and it says "your system is currently up to date" and I'm not getting the system update popup asking to install. How do I get this thing to remind me to update??

You have to wait for the master file to get pushed, or manually install the FRG22D master file and either wait for the OTA push (could take weeks) or do that manually as well.

1) Is there a way to manually "push" the master file? I don't understand.
2) Manually install FRG22D? Chance of corruption? How would I do this?
3) OTA Push? OH JEEZ NOW WHAT IS THAT!?

Is it best if I just wait to be prompted again for the update? I just now saw that update window last night first time in about a month [which is why I finally went back to unrooted] and now I haven't seen it again since (Now that I'm back to stock). etc.

thanks for your help

Manually installing files is fine. In fact it offers less corruption/bad install rate than OTA pushes. OTA = Over The Air.

If you want to wait up to a month for your phone to update automatically, that's fine. :)

Hey if you don't mind can you link me to a walkthrough on how to install the update manually? Also, I can go back to rooted once I'm fully updated with no problems yessir?

FRG83D is the most recent version, yes. And there may be a one-touch rooting method that works and is trustworthy at some point. Keep an eye open as z4root may well be updated in the next few days or week -- or never, you never know.

Hey can you just throw me a file that i can click on thru my droid that will just str8 up update it or am i on crack n shyt?

Okay thank you so very much, you do not realize how appreciative I am. I will be doing this as soon as I get home-

I'm not sure that file will get him from 2.0.1 to 2.2.1 furman. boscher50, when you're done smoking your crack (just kidding) can you go on your phone to menu -> system -> about phone and tell us what the last few lines say?
