Task Killers... The Answer from Google & Developers.

Lol vzw rep installed atk without even asking me. I've been doing some research since reading this thread and it seems that atk may actually have been hurting my battery but not in a huge way. In any case I have begun only using atk when my phone gets really slow and I suspect a poorly performing app in the background

The video in the first post makes a hell of a lot of sense to me. I'm sold on letting Droid do what Droid does best and manage the memory. I know understand the loading of "anticipated" applications. My question is will my Incredible learn as I use to as to what to load in anticipation? For example, right now Amazon MP3 loads along with Skype. Will it eventually learn that I don't use those apps and load other apps I do use in their place? Hmmmm.....

Someone let me know if my logic is right here...

Even though task killers show "X" amount of memory being used by a "running" app doesn't mean "X" amount of memory is reserved for that app, its memory in a saved state. If you open a new app that requires more memory than whats available, Android shuts down non-priority apps to make more memory available. So by running a task killer and killing all apps to "free up more ram" actually slows down the system by having to put the app back in memory when opened again.

Do I have this right or am I off?

I never would have believed it but...

I took off autokiller, and did a fresh install of LFYv1.6
and installed the Galaxy S ROM Theme...

Well, I'm happy to report Android on its own is working as intended
and probably even better with 2.2

So to all that tried to tell me but I wouldn't listen...
Thank you!

We don't need no stinking auto killers!

maybe if devs took this into consideration i wouldn't use task killers. Although "ATM" ADVANCE TASK MANAGER has been updated 9/14/2010 and works smooth with froyo. i haven't had to use the widget since the update. and i would like to say my phone was fast before but now she screams

Although i have been working with a couple devs trying to make my own AOSP rom i will be taking this into consideration in the finished product

Aww hell, heres my $.02
I have and use a task-killer.
My M-O : NO AUTO-kill. When i do my screen unlock sequence i hit the task-kill widget. (i do have some minor apps ignored(clock/calender stuff)) So whatever was running is out. i dont care what was preloaded, i want all mem available. i dont need the processor taking up time/power thinking what old app to dump? It only needs to use its resources for MY commands. If i know im not going to be using my phone for more then an hour i'll hit the task-kill widget and let some apps restart if they chose. :icon_evil:
However when my screen is off these apps are limited to only using the CPU @300, so their effect is minimalized.
I use my fone a good amount (in my mind) and i have great batt life.:icon_ banana:

well not to sound like a jerk... but you obviously don't know how android operates. your constant task killing efforts are nothing but wasted time and more than likely result decreased performance (and decreased battery life; you say yours is great and it may be, but I'm certain that it would actually increase if you were to chill on the task killer).

Your memory/processor aren't wasting resources on non-active/background apps.

Android will start different processes/activities as it sees fit, so auto-killing them doesn't really help out, as android will almost immediately start many of them back up.

Task killers have their purposes... mostly closing frozen/malfunctioning apps and, at certain times, closing apps such as nav, games, etc. that aren't typically called upon for routine processes.
