The Official DF Droid 4 Pre-Release Thread

i kinda wonder if google has some back door contract stating no phone could get ics for so many weeks and may be why droid 4 didnt launch with it def makes the gnex seem far superior.

There was a pretty good explanation of the process and why it takes so long -- up to 6 mos -- posted a while back. Nexus is plain vanilla so it was good to go out of the box, not so Blur or Sense.

D4 will most likely get ICS in due course. I just think someone should come out and say so straight up and straight out. Come clean with a concrete commitment to the customers who commit cash to company coffers.

Perspective instantiates reality.

From what I have been hearing is that, in general, Verizon only announces the day before that the phone is going on sale.

So we should hear something on Wednesday. Anyone else googling "Droid 4" every free moment, too? lol

Every day for weeks now! I'm starting to feel ridiculous. This is like waiting for Santa Claus! Read some sources on the web today predicting Feb 10 as the next "likely" release date.

Only superior to those who care or even know about that. A lot of consumers don't know what software is running their phone and actually don't even care. As long as the phone works. And they may care about the name "droid" or "razr" or both together then what's inside the phone. Or the battery in the Maxx. Or what they see on the screen--again subjective to their own opinions.

Not saying ICS isn't superior, I'm sure it is, but I'm still on my Droid 1 and not rooted, and I'm fine with that. It sort of runs. Sometimes acts up, but it's still ticking.

oh yeah i know that deb thats why i said SEEMS superior when in fact i dont think it is in many ways. Yes tc_mits you are correct it takes longer to put blur or sense on plus they have to adapt the hardware and bug test. In the past the Droid limne got it right away the newest software because it was the primo device. Yes i know that there have always been a nexus device, but the early model was full price and other devices at the time OG droid were vanilla and unlockable, but from now on nexus will have it far before anyone else and i dont believe its just due to vanilla. Plus i think companies in the past year obviously put way to much money in developing new phones and not improving there software.

Do ya think.....?

Hmmm... I've been waiting patiently for the Droid 4 to be released and I'm getting antsy now!!! WTF Verizon? Why such a long wait??? Oh I get it.., you guys are probably getting the Droid 4 MAXX built and tested before you release the Droid 4 so you can make it obsolete before the newness wears off...........kinda like you did with the Droid RAZR.......

My first thought was "really? Only a 1785 mAh battery? I don't remember what the size of the D3's standard battery was--I've always only used the extended battery. Based on that 1785 seems less than appropriate.

My second thought? I wonder if the GPS works. Perhaps I should say "works consistently" or "works better than the D3's." But the more I assess this, the more cynical I feel about it.

I beg to differ. I prefer the original razr because I don't need that much battery power. I don't mind plugging in my phone every night and if you do some tweaking you can make this battery last pretty long. I also feel like that much battery in your pocket is a little unsafe since you can't remove it and 4g can make your phone get pretty hot at times. The razr maxx doesn't look as nice as the original razr either in my opinion. Yes its still ridiculously thin but it just doesn't look as good to me.

My GPS works perfectly fine on my D3

Non-removable battery - Just forget it

I would NEVER buy any phone with a Non-removable battery.
That's just plain stupid.
That's something a Apple cult member would buy.

Again I beg to differ android is so solid now that its not that big of a deal. Saying its an apple thing is just ignorant. Its a make the phone slimmer and more attractive thing. Just stating my opinion though since I know so many people in this thread are concerned about the non removable battery.

I agree with you 100%. I like everything about this phone, except for the non removable battery. Because of that, I will never own a Droid 4. I still have my original Droid, and its on its 3rd battery. When it gets to the point the battery doesn't last long, I order another one from Ebay or Amazon (very cheap) and switch it out. With the Droid 4 I would have to send my phone in for service each time it needs a new battery? I don't think so! And I am sure the cost for the battery will be MUCH higher. Once in awhile I end up in a situation where I cannot be near a charger for a couple days. In this case I just bring an extra charged up battery with me and swap it out when the 1st one gets low. Easy, simple, and convenient. In the same situation with the Droid 4 I would be without a phone. I will never own a phone that doesn't have a removable battery!
