The Official DF Droid 4 Pre-Release Thread

I agree with you 100%. I like everything about this phone, except for the non removable battery. Because of that, I will never own a Droid 4. I still have my original Droid, and its on its 3rd battery. When it gets to the point the battery doesn't last long, I order another one from Ebay or Amazon (very cheap) and switch it out. With the Droid 4 I would have to send my phone in for service each time it needs a new battery? I don't think so! And I am sure the cost for the battery will be MUCH higher. Once in awhile I end up in a situation where I cannot be near a charger for a couple days. In this case I just bring an extra charged up battery with me and swap it out when the 1st one gets low. Easy, simple, and convenient. In the same situation with the Droid 4 I would be without a phone. I will never own a phone that doesn't have a removable battery!

You're lucky you recived good batteries. I ordered one off amazon and it didn't work. It was one suggested on this forum.

Since that didn't work I bought a recharger. Slightly larger then a spare battery, but works.

So a nonremovable battery doesn't bother me.

I would NEVER buy any phone with a Non-removable battery.
That's just plain stupid.
That's something a Apple cult member would buy.

ok for one i am buying that phone and i am definetely not stupid. so watch what you say is stupid or not. Now if you are someone who is not near chargers most the day, it probably is not a good fit. For me i travel in my car all day seeing patients. so I always have a place to charge whether it is my car charger, my laptop, office charger, home charger, and a few other places. Also put the apple comment back in the closet and leave it there...lol. I am sure this phone will not be to bad to change the battery on i have changed them in iphones, ipod touches, and other devices. I am kinda wondering what holds the battery depending on the compartment and the connector if its anything like the razr where it just kinda snaps on or screws on (i cant remember), i see no reason that some smart company doesnt make a tray that can slide in and sell batteries that you can hot swap. I only say this because unlike the razr the droid 4 has a removable back with a tool. I have a d2g (i just got due to the unfortunate death of my og) and i never swap, and its battery is only 1400 mah or something.

I called the tech place, $80 to change out iPhone battery.

Yes, there are work-arounds for the RAZR/D4 battery issues. But why? The old way works just fine -- better, in fact. Tip O'Neill, former Speaker of the House, famously quipped, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." All these work-arounds wind up sounding like rationalizations.

Nobody would, necessarily, be stupid to buy a D4. If you need LTE + a KB on vzw, that's the best there is atm. 'IMHO' vzw was supremely stupid for, unnecessarily, putting us in this situation. There's just no good reason for it -- lotsa reasons, just none of'm good. I really hope vzw comes to it's senses on this in the future.

If the Droid Maxx does come out quickly after the D4 as everyone speculates, what will be different?

It is already a bit of a brick, it will be even a little more so. IF a D4 MAXX happens, then that's the only definite.

Possibly, a MAXX could combine the two anticipated fixes and be the 'D4G MAXX' -- who knows, it might drop in ICS, too, all at the same time. Or, none-of-the-above.

I think a D4 MAXX may well be necessary because on top of the same things that gave many, perhaps not most, RAZR buyers battery problems, the D4 also has a more power-hungry pentile display and backlit keys that you can't turn off.

yes very very true i cant wait for lte !!!!! but the battery for d4 is 30 percent bigger and it seems to have more automated tasks allowing me not to have to turn on the phone as much... i find my biggest drain is the screen.

When it "acts up" do you ever find it useful to 'pull the battery'?

I've only done that a few times
I forget how to do the soft reboot and only learned about it a few months ago.

I pull the battery every once in a while just to make sure the phone is completely cleared... It seems to do a better job than just turning the phone off or forcing a reboot. BTW to force reboot via keypad you hold down the left shift + left ALT + DEL at the same time.

so.. just keeping tabs. No Droid 4 commercial during the superbowl even though Razr was like the first commercial to air. Granted Qwerty Keyboard phones usually have the backseat to virtual keyboard phones anyway.
