DROID RAZR and Its Gorilla Glass Fail to Survive a Pocket Drop, Galaxy Nexus Succeeds Down Flight of Carpeted Stairs – Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

thats no pocket drop. thats airplane.

as for the gnexus, if this is what happens to the "built tough" razr... im still not scared. only 1 thing im slightly scared about is the curved screen. if it dropps, it lowers the surface area causing greater contact force on those 2 points rather then spreading out the force among the whole phone. im sure samsung engineers accounted for this but still...

-edit... triple post. looks kinda bad doesnt it. you know you are on droidforums too much when you triple posted and didnt realize it... time to sleep!

I've read that Samsung's generally need scratch protection. How many will be putting on some sort of glass protection and how many will go "naked"?

Actually, face down the Nexus may fare better, as it could hit the plastic edges and absorb more of the fall.

I know what you're thinking with more surface area, but I think because it's not landing flat on the glass it could prevent some shattering.

I've always felt like a lot of front face falls crack because the surface they land on is uneven, not necessarily because it's a hard surface.

Insane guy throws nexus down the stairs..

Too bad it was carpeting.

Did you watch the scratch test done about a week ago with the key? They took a key and rubbed it repeatedly back and forth over the screen on the Nexus and it was not scratched at all.

That said, I always put a screen protector and a case on my phones. The slightest imperfection drives me crazy. My last phones have all remained in mint condition, but my OG had a very tiny nick in the screen cause I didn't have a protector on it at first. So I had to get rid of that phone.

I had my OG Droid naked for 2 years - not a single scratch on the screen. However it had Gorilla Glass and the Samsung Nexus does not.

Keys generally are not capable of scratching any kind of glass. Not a real test.

Not trying to ad to anymore confusion, but I'm gonna.. are we changing the name of the phone again?

Ahh, time to by a Razr. "Drop" it out if my pocket. Then sue for false advertising! :D Who's with me? ;)

Oh, btw... Has anyone seen any videos of testing it taking a bullet? If it wasn't $300 bucks, I'd take one out to the range! ;)

Eh I knew that was gonna happen. The material is not what you think it a plastic back with carbon fiber woven with kevlar with very little to no epoxy. Basically the cloth is there for show and to protect the back from minor scratches. The phone is not nearly as durable as they advertised and in this day where every one wants a bigger phone to feel lighter at a reasonable price it is hard to build it like the og droid. The only way to achieve light weight at a cheap price is with cheap composites and/or plastic. We can not have it all, either you want your device to be built like a tank with the weight that goes with it, you get light weight plastic, or you pay extra for advance light weight materials.

Not sure if anyone has seen this article claiming Dec 8 as the release date in the US:

Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus Prime Release Date Leaked as December 8th | | The Red 99The Red 99

gotta add some fuel to the fire :)
