★★★ The "Official" I got my DROID BIONIC Thread ★★★

I think I am going to stick it out for the HTC Vigor to see what that has to offer. Motorola is just not doing it anymore for me.

I still haven't decided if I'm going to upgrade from my original Droid now (for this) or wait to see what comes out down the road closer to the holidays. I'm anxious to see what people have to say about the bionic as that may help me make up my mind.

Just got mine. Fedex dropped it off at my wife's office, she called and I was there 3 minutes later. It's only a 16 mile drive.

Two tries at bringing it online. Went thru the Google registration, set up a contact, surfed a graphically intense site (bam, bam the HD pics were blazing). Installed speetest.net app from the market and checked out my speed ~10/5. Not to bad for a 1 bar 4g signal.

Screen is OK to my old eyes. Very snappy moving around screens/loading stuff. Battery turned red so it's on the charger.

Nice. Pleased.

Glad ya like it Desso, I think you will enjoy it a lot more when ya have more time to play with it :D

Thankfully, the tech guy I spoke with gave me his contact information and told me that I am to go through him exclusively for this issue from here on out. He wasn't very impressed with the whole situation.

Training staff can be hard, but this sure seems like a major training fail on Verizon's part. Their staff has access to FAQs but the don't understand them and it is unfair to expect them to do their learning on the phone.

The guy I spoke with tried to tell me these special Verizon simcards could never be pulled from the phone even to be reseated as they were single use. He did this because he misread a line in a FAQ he was breezing through for the first time on the phone with me. Not his fault, but Verizon's for not having proper training for the people initially answering the phones.

Care to share your guy's contact info? ;)

Today is the first day I've used it in bright, direct sunlight and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised. Perfectly clear. No comparison at all to any of my previous Android devices.
Are you referring to the screen or camera pictures? Both have garnered negative comments...

For me if I bring the phone close to my eyes I see the graininess.. and in sunlight it is nice compared to my og droid.. Camera is camera.. I use a real camera for pictures if I need to..

I've seen more positive then negative, like I said before. I think a bad batch got sent out. I'm not defending the Bionic because I have one, trust me, if I experienced any of these issues I would have returned it.

Last Thursday I got an email from Verizon inviting me to Pre-Order a Bionic. Today I went in to see and walked out with one. Steep learning curve even having had a Droid. Currently transferring files from my Droid to the Bionic. Right away I had to figure out exactly which option when plugging it into the PC.

Finally got my Bionic - here's my homescreen!

I am loving it! It is so fast, the only thing missing for me right now is 4G (not quite to my area) and wireless tethering. Other than that, this is a great phone! dancedroid

Ok, I caved in and picked one up. WOW... makes my X look like an old clunker! I'd say its a lot like going from a 1995 BMW to a 2011. Just sweet! :icon_ banana:

My x died on me last night...went by to see what new phones were out and found the bionic. Didn't even know they were out. Seems like a decent phone so far.

So I got mine yesterday and have put it through the paces, my thoughts thus far:

-The good.

Fast. Holy crap fast, practically instantaneous. SUCH a upgrade for my ever aging D1, and I was even rather content with it before it started having a mind of it's own and going crazy about 5 times a day.

Battery first cycle: 13hrs. Pretty damn decent for a first go...but for my first go the phone was "Awake" the entire duration, which is different than my Droid so I'm not sure if that's by design or if something was keeping it active.

Screen. HOLY BRIGHT LIGHT, BATMAN. Super bright screen, looks great in the sun too. Yes it's the slightest bit grainy but the benifits are worth it to me as I'm outdoors 80% of the time for work (construction), so this is a big bonus for me.

- The complaints.

Power Button. Ugh, I can't tell you how many times I've tried to power it on from the wrong side! They should have just left that alone because it was far more natural to power from the right.

Cell Standby. It's bad, real bad. I know this is common among all Bionics but it absolutely crushes the battery. Yes the battery lasts a long time due to the Pentile screen but all the savings are lost due to the inefficiency of the Cell Standby. Hopefully once the Bionic has been fully hacked this can be modified somehow.

LED Notification. It's slow, a little too slow...I have to literally stare at my phone to see if I have a notification, kinda defeats the purpose.

Exterior Speaker. It's noticeably quieter than the D1, perhaps even half. This one hurts a bit, but I can deal with it...if not for that annoying clicking sound from audio playback which is a known issue. Thumbs down here for this not being ironed out before release, unacceptable.

News Widget. I preferred the one included with the D1, it was far more simplified and the continuous ticker was nice instead of removing "read" content. This one just sticks out like a sore thumb on the screen so I can't wait to have it themed at the very least.

Nearly all of my complaints can be fixed via software means so here's to hoping for custom rom's, because the hardware on this phone is stellar.

My 4G activated today! My 4G activated today!

I thought I was outside the range as it only said 3G any time I noticed up till now. MAN it's SWEET!

Weird that it isn't instantly active, but who cares! It was almost as fast as my cable. (Which got upgraded to TimeWarner WideBand tonight 50/5 that's sweet too!) But I worked from my phone & laptop the whole time and couldn't tell that I wasn't on my normal wireless.

This officially makes up for the keyboard.

I wonder if the shorter connections to grab email will lead to less battery being used...
