The OTA update failed and retries every two days...can I stop it or?

a couple posts I read also suggested to wipe cache/dalvik cache afterwards...

if all else fails you can always flash the global ruu leak and that will stop the incoming ota...

How do I wipe the cache? Do I find it and delete its contents?

reboot into recovery, amonra, under wipe options: wipe cache and dalvik cache..

Well, after renaming htcdm and wiping the cache I have not seen that update again!

I had the same issue, except mine was trying to update multiple times a day even when I tried to defer the update. It also removed root access, so I ended up having to reroot using Amon ra, then buy Ultimate Backup to freeze htcdm and htcCOTA. So far so good, thanks for the suggestion I was getting very frustrated with having my battery drained and needing to reboot every morning.
