The Ultimate Droid 1.0.0 - Droid 1 Only

Does anyone know how to get the stock launcher instead of launcher pro with this bad boy?

I am probably in the minority on this, but I really prefer the stock launcher to any of the ones like launcherpro or ADW...

there has to be an easier fix to the launcherpro thing. I tried just moving to data/app and it didn't work. I have had success doing that in the past. It's pretty annoying to have to delete LP, install another launcher and then reinstall LP again just to get it to update.

I experienced the same problem as you, and I was able to get it resolved. Maybe you could try this and see if it works for you.

First I went into Titanium Backup and found the entry for LauncherPro and double-tapped to bring up the button selection & chose "uninstall" to remove it from my phone.

Next, I tried several different things but what seemed to work was to open Root Explorer, mount R/W at the root level, then search for "launcher". Since I have ADW installed, you will get several hits for that, so be sure to look at the files, as they will have "ADW" in the filename and don't delete them. There were 2 files for launcherpro, so you can try using that as the search term as well. One was in the dalvik cache, one looked like it was somewhere having to do with the market. Once those are deleted, remount root to R/O, then REBOOT! If you don't reboot, it doesn't work.

After the reboot, go back into the market and try installing launcherpro and it should (hopefully) install now.

Hope that helps!

Is it really that time consuming to delete it, reboot, reinstall, restore settings and replace your widgets? I think it took me under 5 minutes. Not trying to be a smarta$$, but it just doesnt seem to be much of a hassle considering you only have to do it one time and then you are good to go.

it only needs to be done once, and takes about 5 minutes tops. most probably less than that. plus you can save your launcherpro homescreens and restore them once you are done...so even less time.

there is no other way to do it as far as i can see (although I'm sure there are people smarter then me who may figure it out), and again its a one time thing. it's not like you have to do it every single time a LP update comes out :)

Do a reboot before reinstalling

Ding ding ding.. haha. I was actually rebooting as I read this. That solved the issue.

Same here.. But trouble down the road. Need a registered launcher in /system/app in case of full wipe. Market launchers install in /data/app - and get lost on full wipe.

Any new ROM you put on there should push a default launcher into /system/app upon installation. I don't think you have to worry about not having a launcher when installing a rom after you've wiped

I understand that but for me it takes a lot longer because I have my homescreens set up with custom icons that are made using desktop visualizer which makes them widgets technically. LauncherPro cannot backup widgets, so for me it takes a whole lot longer than 5 minutes. It's not a big deal but I was just wondering if there was an easier way, that's all. I should have explained that in my first post. I see why it came across as me just being lazy and not wanting to do it that way.

hmmm are you sure? I've used DVR in the past and LP has restored them with no problem...

hmm ok, maybe it's just stock widgets it won't restore. I will try it out and report back. Worse case scenario I just have to re-do my homescreens.

yeah the stock ones definitely won't, but I'm pretty sure DVR will...i dont have that many widgets on my screens but I can imagine it being annoying when you do. But remember, just 10 minutes of annoyance and you're good to go dancedroid

huh, can someone try to do a search on the market for me, ADW Launcher is not showing up in the market for some reason. Just want to see if it is me or everyone having the issue. I tried clearing market data and that didn't do the trick.

That's assuming you flash a new ROM after the wipe. Seems something's different. Simply moving a launcher to system/app doesn't work. Needs to be installed first - them moved from /data/app to /system/app. And can't directly install an app to /system/app.

In my opinion - a stock launcher should probably be a part of all ROMs - and allow 3rd party launchers reside in /data/app where updates are allowed.

Now I updated to UD1 from 8 without wiping - everything worked just fine - but found /data had consumed about 40M more of flash than previous.

So I did full wipe and reinstall of UD1. After sync and reload of lost private apps - was still consuming more than 20M in /data than UD8 (but before I had reset all app preferences).

Wiped or not - LP wouldn't update without the install other launcher/uninstall/reinstall two-step. Between that and the mysterious lost RAM in /data... guess I'm looking forward to UD2 about now.
