Thunderbolt now or Bionic later?

TB has signed bootloader, etc. Right? Hopefully bionic will head that way... what's the atrix's loader like? That would be a good clue... even though I would suspect the atrix to be more locked down cuz of the extra ram and stuff...

The extra RAM on the atrix has nothing to do with the bootloader. The tbolt is locked but not encrypted. That's the reason we already have full root access and custom roms (cm7 and other aosp roms are only a matter of time now that the kernel source has been released) The atrix (and likely the bionic as well) is locked AND encrypted. There is a BIG difference.

I read that a few people who had the TB and the DX put the leaked gingerbread on their DX and like it better then the TB . It had them rethinking and looking at the Bionic more. One already returned his Thunderbolt.

GB on the dx still doesn't change the fact that moto encrypts their bootloaders...I will NEVER buy a moto phone until this changes. The current dx/2 "roms" are honestly nothing more than glorified themes...no thanks!!!

There are more people out there that who do not care about the encrypted lock boot loaders then those that do.. So it does not really matter if you will never buy another Moto phone like it doesn't matter if i will never go back to AT&T People will purchase the Bionic myself included just like people will go to AT&T.

I'm not sure you understood what I was saying hehe, I wasn't implying its more locked down cuz it has extra ram, but most people seem to say/believe the extra ram has the sole purpose of running the webtop OS which it supposedly does 24/7...

so its not the fact it had the ram that makes me feel it might have more reason to be more locked down... its what that ram is used for (hosting an OS that's always running)

I agree that right now it seems like more of a fight against these modders... but IMO when all of the sudden windows phone 7/8 are the most open phone platforms and they are losing a ton of business to them... THEN they will remake their gameplan... I just hope it wont be too late by then... because if you end up being able to dual-boot windows/android on one phone... why buy the one that only does one?

Microsoft is working WITH Modding teams to ensure they don't get locked out, whereas android (everyone EXCEPT Google) is working their butts off to lock people out...

IMO I think each network should have AT LEAST one solid full on Google phone, either per generation or every other generation. If not, then either modders better get a lot better faster (which they ALWAYS do (we love you guys)) or we may see windows ACTUALLY being smart and getting their giant foot in yet another huge market.

Either way I'll be here enjoying the ride/show ;)

^ you might be right about them wanting to lock down the webtop OS, I'm not sure. The fact still remains that the bootloader is encrypted just like on the dx/2 and the bionic will very likely be the same.

Yeah I think the bionic will too... Which makes my choice so much harder... TBH though... I might still get it... zipaligned, bloat-free... even without super custom ROMs it could very well easily outperform the TB.... just wont be nearly as fun to customize... this coming from someone who went from D1 to D2 (I got them both for free otherwise I would never buy a D2 or waste an upgrade on it).

There is a very good chance I will be throwing rooted GB on my D2 (which I've had on my D1 for a while now) tonight hehe

I agree, the bionic will still be very capable of performing at a very high level, but without true custom roms and kernels I doubt it will out-perform the tbolt at least until Android can make use of multiple cores.

Custom ROMS and Kernels wont make the TB outperform the Bionic especially once Gingerbread hits.

This is crazy talk.

You are mistaken The TB will not be able to out perform Th Bionic Especially when it gets Gingerbread 2.4.

Bionic may be the only Droid that get's the Android 2.4 Update of GB. It was updated strickly for support of the dual core processor. Why would TB get it if that is the case. TB is a 4g capable 3G technology. Gonna be stuck at the next OS update.

I'm holding out to see what the Bionic has to offer. That said, your point actually benefits the TB. Since the TB can be fully rooted, it will be able to run any future version that the hardware can handle. The Bionic is at the mercy of Motorola. It'd be ironic if the Dev's got 2.4 running on the TB before it's seen on the Bionic.
