Thunderbolt Rooting problem

Do the SLOW download so it's free

Im sorry I guess I just dont knoiw whhat Im doing All I got downloaded was one file named exploits There were 3 files there but when I tried to down load them they all came up exploits Im sure you have better things to do then deal with a nooob like me so if you want tyo give up its ok with me. Thanks

Not happening. Download ONE from each of the three files.
Try the one that says galaxy. We know you already have one called exploits.zip so your a third of the way home.
Seriously, it gets a whole lot easier.
ONE from EACH.

it really isn't hard once you understand the issues at hand. I'll be happy to SLOWLY walk you through it if you need help. I am the absolute nooby but I did get my phone to root. Tell me where you are and I'll guide you

I got it done. Problem is the software. Even following the PDF there are still critical steps that are not outlined which are likely contributing to so many people - myself included - getting confused.

  • SD card MUST be entered. Doesn't need to be the original one, but one has to be there.
  • It would help others if the app would actually just test first to see if the Step 1 package exists on the root of the SD card; if so, test the firmware version reported. If it looks like Step 1 has already been completed then skip the file copy and just do the Step 2 ops. If the package is there but the firmware is off, then just execute the package in place without copying it over again. This helps prevent the bricking risk that people are warning about.
  • Step 2 - The text in the readout box does not match the PDF in some cases. The box says "if you get this error before a hash ignore it" - well, the error came up and no hash, so I ignored it - which is what you're NOT supposed to do.
  • Step 2 grays out and then says "please wait for this to finish" but it goes endlessly. Problem is that it picks up the device but fails to note that it's gone offline - aka no USB debugging - and apparently no timeout.
  • Step 3 - the PDF says that some adb commands will come up "for a minute". I saw none. Yet the root succeeded.
  • PDF says to run Clockwork Recovery. Such an app is not loaded, only ROM Manager. It doesn't say to download Clockwork Recovery...of course, you don't really need to, but my point is that it's confusing to look for an app that isn't needed or loaded. Better to simply say, "run ROM Manager, make sure it asks for permissions".
  • HTC Sync threw an error about the port being dead for some reason. Not sure why and never did get it cleared, but it was what was stopping me the first time apparently. Went fine after I did it again today.
  • The FASTBOOT/RECOVERY/etc menu came up EVERY time. Even though the PDF said the phone should flash and proceed, it never did. Alternate instructions were provided inconsistently.
  • On some bootloader screens the submit button was the power, on some it was the Home button. The PDF just said to "click" the right option without always indicating which button to press. May not have mattered, I'm just saying.

I'm not criticizing what's been done, it's great that the guys provide this service for those who want to free their devices. However it's becoming increasingly clear that these devices are just getting harder and harder to root, and as such, it helps to minimize the confusion as much as possible when providing tools or instructions.
